Screen freezes for 7 secondes

FireHuey

Recommended Posts

Hello

I have a small problem and I don't know how to solve it, when I fly on the A10C or the HU-1H after a few minutes my screen freezes for about 7-8 seconds, so when I fly on strafing pass, landing or others near the ground situation when the screen returnes to normal I'm only a fire ball.

In cruise configuration it's not that bad.

As far as the game progresses these occurrences are getting more frequent.

The PC has been cleaned and DCS World was reinstalled not long ago.

My config:

Windows 7 - 64 bit

AMD Phenom II - 2.20 GHz

RAM 8 gb

Graphics Card AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series (pilot OK)

If anyone has an idea, thank you in advance

You might play with your graphic settings, perhaps you have them too high and you are getting some stutters?

I agree with Sith. your GPU is under the recommended system requirements.

With the latest ver. of the sim. users are having issues with GPU and System Ram.

Some have gone back to the 1.2.5 ver. as they wait out the fix. Other than that lowering the graphics "might" help.

Thank you for your help I also think my problems come mainly from my CPU that is not fast enough, so I already ordered a new Motherboard and a new i7 CPU.

I disabled all the stuffs you advised me including the options, I actually won a few FPS but not much.

I did not skip any.

That's going to be fun. No new GPU with this build?

You can also try to remove some of good looking landscape mods, as they have a great FPS hit.

I am running DCS on a secondary desktop (my son PC) where the configuration is AMD X2 6000 (2x3GHz core), 4Gb RAM, SSD, 2xNvidia GTX270 SLI configuration (Gainward+Gigabayte) and Windows 8.1. The FPS result varies between 20 to 40 on medium details and no graphic/textures modes enabled.

CPU is not loaded at all with sound processing due to a Creative X-FI card.

I am not aware about video cards comparison versus ATI 6800, but I can tell you this is a 5 years old PC and is still doing its job...

I got the same problem with a phenom 2 945 3 Ghz x4, 4gig, win7 64 and GTX 470. It runs mostly fluid but then I got the same freezes for up to 10 secs which ocurre more often with growing game time and they get longer.

Kills DCS since a long time for me. Haven´t done a reinstall since many patches because of a very slow internet connection. (no mods installed)

4gigs is under the minimum specs for the game, you should have atleast 6gigs of ram.

FWIW, I have had infrequent, but persistent ~5 second freezes with every version of DCS dating back to the first A-10 beta. SSD and 24 GB ram here (I use this machine for heavy CAD work). I gave up trying to sort that one years ago, but it only happens maybe once every 2 hours of flying time - your's sounds way more frequent. So, while you definitely need an upgrade, no guarantees everything will be fixed.

It did happen recently about 1.2mi out on a gun run on a T-72 tho...not fun knowing you are hurling towards death with a frozen screen.

Nope, certainly no guarantees, but definitely needs to be crossed off the list to try and diagnose what is going on. My system is a pale comparison to yours Joyride, and I dont experience these freezes... *shrug*

Typically people who use CPU intense programs (CAD, Video Editing) Muck with the system to get more juice out of it. Modifying the BIOS or Cache File some even muck around in the Brains of Windows.

These changes work soundly for the Intensive programs but are quite counter intuitive for other software looking for windows to mang. their requests in a lower state.

Recently I haven't played single mission. Mostly I'm in MP missions.

For example: Starting up A-10C. Turning my heads around, it stutters. Ok, I can live with it. Later, I'm doing taxi, so going out from hangar. While turning right, oops it freezed! (But A-10C moving forward - I know). Then I find myself in grass!. Let's start it from the beginning!

The thing I realized that the mouse (+ symbol) doesn't freeze whlie all these things happening...

My system is below. If you say "that's normal with your system", then I'd beter to start playing SAR4...

Nice system. Are you planning to upgrade the video card soon? It is the only item I see that needs a bit more GPU Ram.

Honestly, I would upgrade, if I thought the problem was related with vRAM exactly.

Easy enough to check with "System Monitor" and lowering your Graphics settings.

A few iterations ago I noticed a lot of people having issues with low performance on GPUs with less than 2Gigs. (The ver. with graphics improvements) To many updates to recall the exact ver. number.

Ok. I'll try it in every settings.

By the way, changing in visibility settings help a little. At least it doesn't freeze 7 secs, just 2 just maximum. :)

But, I do believe that the engine or something isn't changed, we didn't get new big features in DCS v1.2.6, but another things are changed since v1.2.6 about graphics management. I had never these issues in v1.2.5, and I was happy to be owner my PC system. Today, I'm not.

When someone buy a graphic card, vendors or sellers shows FPS tables about graphic cards and games. They must add DCS World into that table.

I get freezing (2-3 seconds) as well from time to time. Is a overclocked 3570K and equally overclocked MSI GTX 680 Lightning GPU sub-par for 1.2.6 as well?

Ooh! Your GTX680 is 2GB? Plus you have SSD. And you have freezing issue...

I was going to purchase a SSD just for DCS, today. I'm indecision now about buying it or not...

Yes, I have 2GB GDDR5 6008MHz memory on that 680. I don't think a SSD will make any difference for you. As a matter of fact I have tried installing DCS on my Seagate Momentus Hybrid disc as well as on the Corsair SSD but there is NO DIFFERENCE in either performance, loading time or regarding freezing and stuttering.

I haven't had any issues at all until 1.2.6 arrived but all of a sudden it seems as if 8GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM isn't enough to run DCS anymore. My PC is a dedicated gaming rig, i.e it is custom built with gaming in mind. There are no unnecessary processes running, no bloatware and no anti-virus software etc, etc using up memory. It also runs cool and stable with a Corsair Hydro H100 CPU-cooler and TwinFrozr II GPU-cooler in addition to the fans in the Corsair C70 case, so heat isn't an issue either. I suspect serious memory leaks in 1.2.6!:joystick:

Only now had I noticed this thread. I'm having the same problem as some of you guys.

I didn't have the problem until 1.2.7 arrived. And btw, the problems are called "Timeout detection and Recovery" (TDR), you can read more about it here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/ff570087(v=vs.85).aspx and here: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/389688/geforce-drivers/nvidia-statement-on-tdr-errors-display-driver-nvlddmkm-stopped-/

While trying to troubleshoot this issue, I've noticed that my VRAM is sometimes getting close to full when a TDR happens, but that's not always the case. Plus besides having VRAM, most of us have about 2 more GBs of shared system memory for the GPU in case it is needed.

I'm quite sure this is an ED problem and the dated engine of DCS and doesn't have much to do with faulty hardware.

This is my hardware:

Asus P8Z68-V/GEN3

Intel i5 2500K @ 4.5Ghz with Corsair H80i water cooling

G.Skill Sniper 9-9-9-24-1.25V 1600Mhz 2x4GB (8GB) ram

Intel 330 series 180GB SSD

Asus GTX680 Direct CU II TOP 2GB

Corsair TX750V2 PSU 750W

Windows 7 SP1

Failure is the mother of all success.

Same picture on my system: Win7x64, MB X79, i7-3820 4GHz, 2*4GB DDR3 1866MHz, HD7950 3GB GDDR5, SSD.

Screen freezes from 10 to 15 seconds every hour. Even when i fly only above one airfield all this time.

if its consistently every hour, your system more than likely has something running in the background, which is kicking in.

I have the same issue, the screen suddenly goes black for some seconds, then the landscape slowly rebuilds. Buildings also flash black once I get close to them after this freeze.

System is windows 7 64Bit, a completely fresh install. The only thing installed on this system is DCS, so there is nothing that could hog ressources.

I did not have this issue with the same PC, same OS and a lot more software clutter when I last played about 12 months ago (had to take a pause from DCS due to work).

System: 8GB Ram, i5 2500k, Geforce GTX560Ti, Asus P8Z68-V LX Mainboard, Installed on a Samsung SSD.
