Wait, does the P-47's supercharger smoothly regulate manifold pressure with altitude as opposed to the jarring "high gear" transition we get in the 51/spitfire?
AFAIK the turbocharger in the P-47 is manually operated, that's why provided you pay attention for all the time it will be smoother than any automatic supercharger, but also a means a way higher workload for the pilot, especially during descent in which you can over boost and blow your engine up quite easily.

Yes... you have Two throttles, one is your regular throttle (Right one) and the other is the turbo (left side)

So you use your right lever to fly low level lets say 0 Ft up to 15000 (dont recall the exact number) but somwhere around there.

As higher you go, air is less dense, less O2 entering the engine so at one point you have your throttle lever all the way up and the engine as you go higher starts losing MP. so its time to reach for the left lever, and start spoling up the turbo wich compresses air and increases your MP, so lets say you enter combat at 25000 ft, you are only going to use your turbo lever as your regular lever its already max up. (and you will use your turbo lever as a regular throttle) (it doesnt have higher or lower setting)

A big NO NO its to have the Turbo lever Higher than your "regular" lever Example cruising at 25000 ft witch turbo lets say half way up.. and suddenly pull the regular all the way back, in this case the turbo will blow up! and bye bye turbo

so for descent from hight altitudes you reduce gradually your Turbo and when it reaches all the way back you go back to use your regular lever

In some models there was a little mechanism that joined both levers as one, so that at higher altitudes you could use the turbo lever wihtout never worring about lowering the wrong lever. least they both where at the same place.

The P-51 all of this its automatic with only Two turbo settings, Low and High. In the P47D you get all the range in the lever

P-51 doesn't have turbo, only supercharger. The supercharger has two gears.

P-47 has supercharger and a turbocharger. The supercharger is single speed, there's no control for it. The turbocharger has manual wastegate control lever that you've just described.

Sounds like the P47D will be quite a handful. Poor climber, but good roll rate, great top speed straight and level, and an absolute beast in the dive.

Current specs: Windows 10 Home 64bit, i5-9600K @ 3.7 Ghz, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB Samsung EVO 860 M.2 SSD, GAINWARD RTX2060 6GB, Oculus Rift S, MS FFB2 Sidewinder + Warthog Throttle Quadrant, Saitek Pro rudder pedals.

In the current scenario of low altitude dogfighting it'll be the most difficult plane to fly. The P-47 will be around 50kph slower than the K4 and D9 at SL, it may as well be at a stand still. You'll have nothing to fall back to if someone is on your 6. Just hope you've got enough altitude to dive back to base. However it will make an excellent escort fighter possibly even better than the Mustang.

Does anyone know the level force DCS pilots use to roll?

By the time the P47 hits, I think the WWII aspect of DCS will be in full swing. Hopefully we will see some good "escort" missions on popular Normandy servers by that time.

Yeah I think that's the "real" reason why the P-47 module has been delayed so long. If it was released into an air-to-air only scenario the majority of the people would use the P-47 incorrectly and complain. It would get bad reviews and sales would be hurt.

It's better that the P-47 be billed as an A2G asset that a few guys can master in A2A situations.

This isnt true, its purely been about the availability of info for building the module.

Exactly why I want it. It will be way more fun than the A-10c.

Now that's my kind of airplane

Heh-heh! I was thinking something similar when I read that exchange, only my thoughts contained more sex-charged language. : )

I don't normally go for bigger gals, but just can't help myself when it comes to the Thunderbolt.

Can anybody confirm or deny if our Jug is going to have the dive flaps?

I was talking to a WWII enthusiast and he swore on his life we wouldn't be getting them. My understanding is anything above block 28 had them.

DCS modules are built up to a spec, not down to a schedule.

In order to utilize a system to your advantage, you must know how it works.
