Is there a distinct advantage to going through all that or can we just add it as a non-steam game like so:

That has never worked for me, since after you choose your mission and head to the cockpit, you're moved into another application, and Steam no longer sees you playing DCSW.

I suspect, haven't tried it, that if you direct Steam to DCS.exe instead of Launcher.exe that it will work as desired.

(Note: That is what TIR does. If you notice, assuming you have it, TIR is not active when you are in the menu screens, unless you go to Options>Controls. It activates when DCS.exe is executed.}

EDIT: If you really wanted to cover the bases, you could create two entries for DCS World. Call the first one DCS World Menu and link it to launcher.exe and call the second one DCS World Flying and link it to DCS.exe.

TIR does that because it doesn't care how the game is launched, but I think with Steam, it wouldn't work because you're booting the game through the launcher, and not through Steam.

I mean, unless I'm missing something. I've never even thought of just booting up the app directly... how do you choose a mission and stuff?

Ah, I see what you are saying. I incorrectly assumed that you still started DCS normally but Steam piggy-backed onto it once it started up.

EDIT: I wonder how Rise of Flight is going to handle that, since they do something slightly similar by default.

I assumed it was an alternate account for someone so cowardly, they couldn't bear to even be associated with what they had to say. Judging by the terrible formatting, I'd say it just might be one of the very 12 year-olds that their post is railing against for no reason.

However, as a former 12 year-old flight simmer (I'm a SubLogic Flight Simulator baby), I say that if a 12 year-old is willing and capable of flying a full-real sim like the KA-50 or A-10, then bring it on buddy! :pilotfly:

On the other hand i hope eagle dynamics won't choose the same path as bohemia and go "full steam ahead", with steam as a requirement for dcs world and modules.

Going "full steam ahead" solves quite a bit of technical problems. Going "slightly steam" creates additional ones.

I suspect that going 'full Steam' won't happen because Steam likely will not distribute Flaming Cliffs 3 since it requires a product that would not be available on Steam (unless Ubi allowed that to happen).

Apparently I Have 2 DCS:A-10C Serial Numbers Linked To my Account now

(I Guess due to Steam Re-Issuing New Codes for DCSW: A-10C/DLC if you Bought 1.1.1.1 on Steam).

LOL, Fabulous.

Be nice if you could gift the Steam one...

Well, I Bought 1.1.1.1 A while ago, installed via Steam, copied the code, saved it in a TXT File, Then "Uninstalled/Delete Local Files), So A-10C 1.1.1.1 Just sits in my library uninstalled.

Installed Standalone 1.1.1.1, Registered, Then when DCSW came out registered my A-10C Module with the same code.

However I think when I installed DCSW via Steam, the New Serial Code Activated and replaced the old one on my machine for both DCSW Standalone and DCSW on Steam, As I Never Logged in through the Steam Build. I installed it and tested it, then went back to the standalone version for the MP Fly In.

So Im Guessing the New Serial on my Account is not the Active one,

So Im wondering if I Can UNBIND the old one, and install it on my old PC (or My brother's) to get him started.

I do understand that, you have to keep DCS up to date through two ways of distribution.

So can we expect that you are temporally testing the combination of DCS and Steam so ED can eventually go full steam ahead, too?

Sorry Guys I do apologize for my Flame Out yesterday.

Just had a very painful 2 hour ordeal with ATT customer support.

Which triggered a major migraine I shouldn't have said anything.

I hope this whole Steam thing works out. But looking at the questions

being asked on steam about the Sim was disconcerting.

Again my Apologies

It's very easy to keep Steam up to date. We have a fully automated build system, and adding Steam support was not hard.

Matching the user experience of our own updater/installer up to the level of Steam is a tough task - not complex, but quite resource consuming.

And then there's MP lobby, 'friends', 'achievements', 'user mods' - Steam supports many good features right out of the box, just plug it in and it works.
