sgibson
Hi, My machine is getting a little slow for DCS nowadays and it seems the main bottleneck is the CPU. My current config is: 2,30 gigahertz AMD Phenom 9650 Quad-Core ASUS M3N78 4GB RAM ATI Radeon HD 6850 1 GB DDR RAM It seems that my mainboard supports, with a BIOS update, a AMD Phenom II X4 980 (just $ 100,--). Does it make sense or would you go straight for this upgrade package: AMD FX-8320 MSI AM3+ AMD 970A-G43 8GB Ram

SkateZilla
Hi, My machine is getting a little slow for DCS nowadays and it seems the main bottleneck is the CPU. My current config is: 2,30 gigahertz AMD Phenom 9650 Quad-Core ASUS M3N78 4GB RAM ATI Radeon HD 6850 1 GB DDR RAM It seems that my mainboard supports, with a BIOS update, a AMD Phenom II X4 980 (just $ 100,--). Does it make sense or would you go straight for this upgrade package: AMD FX-8320 MSI AM3+ AMD 970A-G43 8GB Ram AMD Bashing aside. An FX-8320 w/ a 990FX Board and 8GB of Ram will perform Alot better than a 1st Gen Phenom at 2.6Ghz and 4GB of Ram. You Might wanna go for a decent GPU too, 79xx,7870XT(<-note the XT is actually a 7930) or 660ti/670/680. Bundle/Deal Shop, Also Stay away from Budget Boards, the $40-$70 boards typically have cheaper components that fail quickly. For Example: a 990FX Board w/ FX-8Core, and 8 GB of Ram Prices From NewEgg: FX8320 $159, Plus $15 off Code http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113285 MSI 990FXA-GD65V2, $124 (Free 8GB of Ram, Limited Offer) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130677 Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB, $0, (Free w/ Above Mainboard Purchase, normally $72) $258+Shipping. You may or may not need to upgrade your Power Supply. No Gamer Needs 32 GB of Ram, unless they are purposely making a RamDrive. The Difference between an $500+ Intel Chip and a $180 FX 6/8 Core Chip is marginal, and not worth the price premium. Pikey
FWIW i was AMD for the last ten years but DCS made me go Intel. i5 2500 overclockable one to 4.0 GHz is fine. Possibly the most popular processor ever and still useful due to its overclock-ability. The more money you have the better honestly, but I wouldnt budge for a tiny upgrade. ___________________________________________________________________________ SIMPLE SCENERY SAVING * SIMPLE GROUP SAVING * SIMPLE STATIC SAVING *

SkateZilla
Pretty sure the i5 2500 is discontinued... Yup, Can get it on ebay, but 90% of consumers stay away from ebay due to fear, or simply cuz they dont navigate it and use it right. I've gotten stuff off ebay for 10% of the actual retail cost. :p Windows 10 Pro, Ryzen 2700X @ 4.6Ghz, 32GB DDR4-3200 GSkill (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR x2), ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate, XFX RX6800XT Merc 310 (RX-68XTALFD9) 3x ASUS VS248HP + Oculus HMD, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS + MFDs
