Stuck on a campaign mission, could use some help :)

HI everyone,

Been having a lot of fun learning how to fly this bird, already getting quite a hang for it been replaying the tutorial missions and just generally flying, landing (mostly crashing) and messing around. For my question.

Im stuck on the navigation high altitude campaign mission. I get to the point where I have climb to 25000ft and at a certain point above 20000ft my engine stalls and stops. Am I right in assuming that I have to change the air/fuel mix to get the engine to work at that altitude? How do I go about doing that? Thanks in advance!

Manually switch the supercharger to high blower mode (you need to hold the switch) at ~14.000 feet. (in the manual it states, that it should automatically switch at that height, but in game it doesn't.) Set manifold pressure ~46, rpm ~2600. Keep your speed up.

Fuel mixture is automatic.

Ok thanks, will try that. I know the principles of lift over the airframe/wing, so obviously speed is key, and that wasnt the problem. One other question, why rev the engine at such low RPMS. Even at full throttle at that altitude the manifold pressure drops to about 40-45. Will the engine provide me with enough thrust at 2600rpm?

in addition to tintifaxl, open both scoops to cool the oil, and close the ram air when it carburetor temperature falls below zero. You don't have to go in through the marker the first time. Circle around, gain some altitude, and go in high. Don't even think about pulling the nose to reach it. You'll stall.

Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.

The speed helps cooling the engine, as does the 2600 rpm setting.

Bill, unless there is something seriously wrong with the coding for the cooler doors you shouldn't have to take them out of the auto position. At high altitudes those doors should be almost fully shut at any normal airspeed. The more you open those doors, the more drag you are creating.

true, but not according to the number of times I flew this particular mission. I think ED should make it more challenging this campaign by adding more AI WWII bombers to the list. Also, some dynamic weather would be a good challenge.

Manually switch the supercharger to high blower mode (you need to hold the switch) at ~14.000 feet. (in the manual it states, that it should automatically switch at that height, but in game it doesn't.) Set manifold pressure ~46, rpm ~2600. Keep your speed up.

Are you sure? The other day I flew up to 22,000 and the blower automatically kicked in for me. I don't recall at what altitude, but I remember seeing my manifold pressure suddenly increase and I looked down at the supercharger lamp and it was lit.

I've not flown up to that altitude much but it seems to kick in automatically a bit past 14k. Not sure what the manual says but it was usually closer to 16k for me I think. I never had a problem with it not starting but around the threshold where it kicks in the Mustang is usually already suffering without it so might be worth kicking it in manually a bit earlier.

I've just reached 43000 ft on virtual aerobatics server, and blower switched at 12000 ft. Scoops full open, 3000 rpm and 47inches of manifold pressure. Climb at no more than 2000ft/min so the airspeed is kept at about 200mph. Engine should not boil or stall. It just takes a while, but it's rewarding ;)

Thanks for all your help, I managed to finish the mission. The blower kicked in automatically at about 15000 feet, even though I pushed on it like a maniac at 14000 (yes I flipped the safety first) it only kicked in automatically.

The scoops were on auto (or full, not sure which) but I kept the RPM at around 2600 and did fine up to 30000ft with a little throttle management.

The landing was scary as hell though, diving at a steady 15 degrees into low lying thick cloud cover, with just a general idea where the airfield is....well let me just say I admire the real pilots who had to do this day in day out...

If you want the supercharger to stay on high below 15-16k, flick the safety, left click on hi, then while holding the switch, right click on the safety to hold it in place as its spring loaded.
