a neat trick I learned with rudder

Recommended Posts

Prerequisite: AI bandit at 12 o'clock flush dead ahead.

Speed: 200-180 mph

He comes in, start wiggling with ailerons and adjust rudder trim to center the ball.

Cross paths, let him go under and you turn diagonal and up. Make sure you turn the arc closer to him (meaning don't follow his turn unless the separation is huge -1 nm)

When you reach said speed, pull gently on the stick to just start hearing the stall whoosh without buffet and start a diagonal and down turn towards him.

-> apply rudder gently in direction of ground not air. <- This will let you reacquire him as a traversing target instead of a head-on target.

Apply flaps one notch

Now you're on his tail.. The trick now is not to shoot from 0.3 or 0.2 nm but to hold your rounds and follow him in a lag pursuit. AI always evades in the vertical, so once he starts closing, pull a nudge on the stick just to put the fixed cross ahead of him and continue in the lag (i.e. the nudge is a 1 second lead pursuit followed by the standard lag) and when he is vertically postured, you should be firing 10 bullets to his fuselage, light him up and boom!!!!

I'll post a vid of this trick soon (.trk being rendered)

Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.
