Looking forward to her, not a helicopter I know anything about or even ever seen. But a first day buy no matter what.

i played with this in arma2, but i beleive it will be much more difficult than arma. i can not dare to learn.

btw i hope belsimtek doesn't loose it's foucs on developing huey. because it has too many things to be done. especially about flight dynamics

I totally agree. After they really finish the Huey, which is obviously not the case yet, they should take a well deserved break and then shift focus to the Mi-8.

The love of flying should be enough. Oh, and some cash which I'll gladly spend on this. :)

ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P

Looks very promising. Love the utilitarian design of this helicopter and can't wait to fly it. :)

I wouldn't say that the name is misleading. The Mi-8MTV-1 is identical to the Mi-17. The -8 is for Russian military/civil service, and the -17 is for export. So Russia technically does not operate any Mi-17s.

But yes, the Mi-8 versions prior to the MTV-1 were very different helicopters when comparing their capabilities.

I'm just glad to be getting a helicopter module that I actually have intimate knowledge of.

Hmmm great to see they're delving into rotary wing a/c. Not sure I'll get the Mi8 - looks and flies like a bigger version of the huey, not something you'd want to take up against AAA.

I'd rather they did the AH1Z or AH64 or something which is a true attack heli.

I second that I'm disappointed to be honest. was really looking forward to some A/G with a Huey by my side, just like real life.Too bad. I will not be purchasing this either.

The Mi-8 is at least as iconic as the UH-1. Probably more. It has more recent interesting history too. Belsimtek has already proven themselves and I'd buy anything from them but the line-up certainly does not disappoint. It's going to be an absolute joy flying this.

Have I misunderstood something here, or is Wikipedia wrong again?

They say (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mil_Mi-8) that the MT is a civilian heavy hauler / flying crane with (presumably) no armament-carrying capability. This begs the question: is Belsimtek now boldly going where no DCS developer has gone before, i.e. down the civvie street?

EDIT: Nah. Talking out of me arse again. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mil_Mi-17 for proper details :)

This is also not my favourite helo, but that doesn't matter. I'll buy everything, that has whirly wings, in the first minute

It will be surely fun to fly, it is Hind with a little bigger belly :smilewink:

The 8 is great

I had the honour of flying in one of these from Ashkabad to Prichal (plus the return journey) in Turkmenistan back in '93. I was a little apprehensive when I first saw our bird on the ramp but after the flight I was hooked. A bit uncomfortable sitting in the sling seats for a couple hours and it was roasting hot despite a couple "portholes" being open.

The pilots were in shorts, vests and sandals and the cockpit fan was on full. Landed on the beach at Prichal on the shores of the Caspian Sea and the pilots went for a swim before having a picnic in the dwindling shade under the nose. Afterwards, they fired up the bird again and returned to Ashkabad. Cool job!

Some pics attached.

Also found some very good vids of the Mi-8 on YouTube:-

Really looking forward to the Mi-8 and would also love to have an Mi-26 later on down the road. Its modelled already so part of the work is done. Gotta let us fly the biggest production helo in the world! The super-truck of the skies.
