when an AR missile goes active does it still receive data from the host platform?

is there any point in holding the lock after an AIM120 or R77 goes active?

if the lock is notched will the missile only reacquire by its onboard radar?

THere is no point in holding the lock when the missile goes active at all.

Think of it like a torpedo, it acquired the target, you cut the wires, it is on its own.

 

Of course you may want to keep the bandit locked up ready for a second shot if the first one misses......
