Special request to ED Forum Moderators:

 

A subforum in the Input/Output names "Virtual Reality" would be prudent in my opinion. The Oculus and Vive threads should be moved there. A VR subforum would allow other VR specific topics to be made which would make it easier to have beneficial discussions and keep topics much more organized. This thread alone has 682 pages now with much discussion, some of it more suited to other threads within a VR topic group.

 

Anyhow, I'd like to see this!

 

Right now there is no plans to add a separate subforum.

 

Discussions on this would/should be like any other input output device, they should focus on their use with DCS World. Obviously VR being new, we have let the discussion slide some, but ultimately this wouldnt get any more special treatment than the latest greatest flight stick or such.

Right now there is no plans to add a separate subforum.

 

Discussions on this would/should be like any other input output device, they should focus on their use with DCS World. Obviously VR being new, we have let the discussion slide some, but ultimately this wouldnt get any more special treatment than the latest greatest flight stick or such.

 

As a customer who has much ED content, it appears that the importance of VR is overlooked by this remark.

 

The improvement of game controller technology has never been a watershed event for gaming. VR has. It's actually peculiar that you'd post something like this. My perception of this remark is that, "it's really not a big deal, so you get what you get." Frankly, it's disappointing and discouraging.

 

Developer advancement of VR implementation and utilization should be your highest priority. Maybe some fresh perspective would loosen up some perceived institutional ossification. A subforum for VR would organize and enhance the discussion better for everyone.

As a customer who has much ED content, it appears that the importance of VR is overlooked by this remark.

 

The improvement of game controller technology has never been a watershed event for gaming. VR has. It's actually peculiar that you'd post something like this. My perception of this remark is that, "it's really not a big deal, so you get what you get." Frankly, it's disappointing and discouraging.

 

ED has been very hard at work with adding support to VR devices and it is very important to them. That said, this isnt a support forum for VR devices (except in relation to how it works with DCS World), and at the end of the day it is another piece of hardware that is used to play DCS World (of course a ground breaking piece of hardware).

 

I am not sure what you expect out of a VR subsection besides a name, how would it add to the discussion? You are putting too much weight on a simple subject in relation to ED's idea of what VR will do for DCS. Wags is very high on VR and he and the team know very much the importance it is to DCS and the future of flight sims.

I'm only here, having spent a packet in ED DLC, because of VR. Elite dangerous has a VR sub forum, iRacing has a VR sub forum...

 

You're going to have to work a bit harder to get my VR gaming money as more content comes out and you could do yourselves a big favour in that regard by opening a VR sub forum.

This is the VR subforum, it covers VR and all other input output devices. Simple as that. Its really not open to debate, someone stated they wanted a response. There it is. Creating a VR thread in this section is no different than if this was a VR subsection.

ATM, most ED VR info seems to be merged into stickies. I don't like trolling stickies and much prefer things to be neatly filed in specifically titled threads within a VR forum. It's not hard, other developers have done it and I just don't understand your resistance.

Then Thustmaster users want their own section, and x55 users want their own section, track IR... on and on, each other them thinking their hardware is important enough to have its own section. ED doesnt sell VR headsets. It supports their use. We have a section for support with DCS World right here, and as you can see, most people seem to be able to find it.

 

I dont see the issue.

I know a few guys that Sold their DK1's for $500 ish on Ebay Long ago,

 

So They get their CV1 plus some extra $.

 

Then you have the "i Want it now" people that pay a premium to get something asap, auction ended last night on a CV1 at $1785 + $40 Shipping, You can Get 3 for that amount.

 

One Guy on Gaming Channel Sold his CV1 for $1300 ish on ebay, and went online and pre-ordered 2 more, his reason was, by time they ship he'll have Pascal GPUs, lol

I'm looking at getting a CV1 and I went on the Oculus web site and ran their system checker. It came up with my CPU isn't good enough!? now does this mean either a CPU change or a new rig? my specs are below in my sig. What do you guy's think?

Don't be surprised if your comment is moderated. This thread is to discuss the Rift in DCS. It is not a support forum for the Rift recommended system requirements... Nor should people be discussing eBay prices with that policy in mind. I guess some slip through the net.

 

I think you'd get away with it. Unless you need multi core performance though I'd switch to a 6700k (or equivalent at time of upgrade) to save a lot of money and have the current gen architecture. As you're probably aware... most gaming applications are still heavily influenced by a single thread so the 6 cores won't be doing you any favours for Rift (yet) which is perhaps why it's flagged.

Actually I took his comments to be asking if his system would be good enough for Rift and running DCS World, I know he is a DCS World player, so makes sense... in that case of course that is on topic here.

I'm looking at getting a CV1 and I went on the Oculus web site and ran their system checker. It came up with my CPU isn't good enough!? now does this mean either a CPU change or a new rig? my specs are below in my sig. What do you guy's think?

 

Their Compatibility Tool is Super Strict, Like Extremely Strict.

 

I ran Rift, the demos, and DCS on my Server box the last week,

 

The Server Box is a PhenomII 2 Core CPU at 2.4GHz, an Underclocked AMD 7950 GPU,. and 16GB of Ram, Server box's function is a small media server for my network (TV and Movies)

 

It's Choppy, but it works for the demos and smaller games, DCS I had to drop everything to lowest to get 30 fps, but I dont have Hotas on the server box, so It's pointless, I just wanted to checkout the demo's and stuff while I waited for adapters to ship for my gaming rig.

 

On that note, the MAJOR Issue that alot of people are runnning into is USB3 controllers,

ASMedia and Eltron are extremely problematic, Eltron USB3 drivers will blue screen your system either immediately after you plug in the HMD, or it will lock up the driver and you're system's USB3 ports will no longer detect devices as they are attached or removed, and eventually blue screen when the driver times out.

 

 

If you want to see how DCS Will do in VR (as a general rule of thumb, as some stuff can't be simulated w/o the actual runtime and HMD).

 

Run DCS in Stereo Mode.

^^What Zilla said, it is beyond strict.

 

I'd say you'd be fine. My specs are below and OR's system thing flagged my CPU. I'd suggest DL the SteamVR test and let the render play. That test showed this:

As I Posted Previously, w/ SteamVR:

 

w/ 1 7970 GPU, SteamVR Said I was "capable", w/ 2 I was in the lower section of "Ready", w/ 3 GPUs I was peggged to the edge of "Ready",

 

The Rendered Frames was a difference of about 700 Frames. so the 2nd GPU didnt do much but add maybe a lil less than 10% more Frames Rendered, the 3rd added another 500 or so, however the quality of the rendering increased.

1 GPU: 9,007 Frames (Med/Low Quality)

2 GPU: 9,717 Frames (High Quality)

3 GPU: 10,020 Frames (Very high Quality)

 

Also, AFAIK,. the Oculus Runtime Does not Support SLi, Crossfire, or nVidia Optimus (GPU Switching).

 

Here's to hoping Oculus themselves integrate Per Eye/SplitScreen/Side By Side multi-gpu rendering.

 

DX11 Supports it, so It's a matter of integrating into the Actual Oculus SDK and Runtime.

 

Not sure if DCS will Run Multi-GPU direct to Rift, Will check my GPU's This weekend. (Adapter was Left in my Mailbox a Day early, but I am working long shifts the next 2 days)

 

So the Biggest Beefiest Single GPU is Recommended, along with a CPU w/ Single Thread/IPC Hgih Enough to Manage and Process the Doubled Up DirectX 11 Commands.

 

Once Both Manufacturers release their new GPU's this summer, I'll hit up clearance to upgrade to a Fury or FuryX Likely, as the HBM will greatly help w/ VR.

My PC scored an 11 on the Vive test and passed the Oculus test as well, but there are still times when in DCS that the frames get bogged down to < 40 over dense "urban" areas.

 

I wonder if implementing SLI and Multi/Hyperthreading could help!

Pretty sure both tests are generic and actually state per application performance may vary.

This is another fantastic review again seems Oculus is more refined if the two companies came together they could make one amazing headset with all the features of both.
