So just trying to read through this thread to get started,is the current situation that you cant edit for DCS unless you have 3dsMax 2018 or earlier? I inherited a file I was trying to texture map, but it seems its not possible to work with without these plugins which dont seem to install on the 2021 version.

Hello all. Please, help me. I have an old mod from DCS 1.5.6... And want it to work in last versions of the game. if I'm hypothetical have 3DS MAX 2017, what should I do to convert old EDM files to new versions? When i trying to open that EDM files in ingame ModelViewer2, i have an error: "wrong version of model file"...And that EDM didn't load when I started the game...thanks for the help

How are you exporting the file. Through the save ass or the tool bar?

 

Is this the built in Modelviewer or the stand alone?

I didnt export file from the 3Ds Max, i downloaded it from internet and want adjust it to the latest version 2.5.6

 

And used built in modelviewer...

 

Last version DCS when this mod worked fine - 1.5.6...

Recent activity of stealing models from DCS have caused the dev team to update their export and game engine code to read a new EDM format.

 

You will need the source model to re-export with 3ds max for 2.5.6

The plugin release of today is supporting 3dsmax 2020

it's really great although it is available on 3ds max 2020 but I no longer see the "EDM exporter". How do we do ? Do we export via the 3ds max menu?

 

Still the 2020 plugin is buggy: the link doesn't open the toolbar so the preferences for exporter are not recheable. BTW, yes, you can export EDM format via 3ds menu.

If you have a small resolution, the 4 button panel may appear in the far right upper corner; cut off. Simply click on the double arrows, and then click on the hamburger button.

Thanks Rudel, in my 4K screen the new button toolbar was almost invisible.:P

I've noticed that the options changed in preferences aren't stored: i.e., model scale is set default at 100:1, if I choose 1:1 then close and restart, the 100:1 setting returns.:huh:

I've noticed the same thing.

 

I am also having a few more issues - clicking the export button (where Rudel has circled above) leads to a crash of 3DS Max. I can get around this by exporting from File>Export, however, it does not include the collision_lines.

Hi -Rudel-, 1 bug is out and now 1 bug is in... have you noticed that adding a new argument and animate it will crash immediately 3DS 2020 during saving?:cry:

 

This is always reproducible (tested with another PC and member) with the steps here:

-Open 3ds and setup a new scene (-100/100 timeframe)

-Create a box

-Assign a new Argbased argument (visibility track, position or rotation same behaviour)

-Set Active and animate with autokey.

-Save the file and 3DS will present an error and will stop.

If not saved manually, 3DS will CTD when autosave function start saving the scene in background.

Try converting Pos, Rot, Scale all to Arg Based.

 

Also Convert box to Editable Poly (or Editable Mesh) first.

No Skate, this behaviour is always the same regardless object type: the primitive cube is only to simplify the actions of the video.

I’ve contacted DGbambo that confirmed the bug and they are working on a fix.

Another bug found is that if I choose Make Default for an argbased anim in the panel, at the next startup 3ds crash instantly: the only way to start again was to manually remove the plugin files from 3ds plugin folder, restore the Make default to another anim type, reinstall the plugin.

With the lastest plugin of this evening (version 176791) all the crashes in 3dsmax2020 are fixed. Thanks Evgeny;)
