Been waiting for this a long time. I remember before DCS A-10 cane out the big debate back then to go to a new graphic engine with multi support. I hope with this will come also soon dedicated server and SDK release. The future looks bright. Just bought a new rig. The timing looks good to enjoy this with new rig.

I am looking forward to the implementation of edge into dcs world. Im contemplating a new GPU for it and will wait till it is done. Just wondering if it would be better to sli my 570 or opt for a single 770 or 780.

In my OPINION: You'd be better off with the single 780.

Reason; even with SLI working properly, you should only expect a boost in performance of 10 - 20% at MOST. The jump from a 570 to a 780 (or even 770) is much greater than that...

Now if you could SLI the 780's... ;)

Where have you guys been, these videos have been posted repeatedly.

And Discussed Already.

None of the Content in those videos is representative of upcoming Modules or 3rd Party Modules.

They Are Simply Earlier Versions of EDGE running on Different Simulation platforms being used by other companies for training.

So dont go Posting DCS:KA-52, DCS:AV-8x, DCS: Whatever.

These maps are Commercial Property belonging to other Companies.

It's a reupload and I remember seeing this like 3-4 months back :)
Correct, here is another upload of the exact same video from March 3. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5j8FX8lMXE

And Discussed Already.
Maybe not representative of upcoming modules, but possibly representative of some of the capabilities that could be brought to DCS. In my opinion some of the latest EDGE screenshots look even better than the content of the Altwolf videos.

The date on the vid says 7-26-14.I don't remember seeing this one discussed in this thread.FYI:)

The original video was from early 2014, late 2013, and later removed, this is a re-uploaded by someone that downloaded it.

there's a playlist of EDGE related videos:

The problem is: what is the hardware running the environment for the video? A graphics optimized workstation with NVIDIA Quadro K6000 maybe? Or a "normal" i5 with 2 linked GeForce TITAN but no aircrafts, AI and ground vehicle path calculations?

It looks spectacular and gives a hint about the capabilities of the general engine, but not necessarily represent how it looks or works in the final integration in DCS...

I hope we get seagulls and these detailed buildings and in large numbers, but I would not be surprised, if we see a bit reduced objects etc. to allow for a little calculating in parallel, for aircraft, avionik systems, damage model, flight physics and so on.

Just my thoughts, though. We know for sure when it's done! :D

When Edge is finally released is it going to be introduced on the current map? What changes are we going to see if it is going to use the current map? Are we just going to see more objects on the map, but still have sunken building ect? Or will the current map change dramatically?

It will only change the current map visually, physical changes would require the current map being rebuilt.

When you say visually, do you mean things like better colouring or something else?

Geometry of the Map will stay the same.

Lightning&Shadows, Shaders, etc will be part of the new Engine.

I'm wondering if the newly EDGE rendered clouds and lightning will be visible on the current map.

yes,

Basically, everything that is shader or effects based will be upgraded, the only thing that wont change with Caucaus is the Geometry of the Terrain.
