topol-m Posted February 11, 2011 Share Posted February 11, 2011 If you look at the EU, USA etc there is a definite trend toward greater and greater interdependence, and with the ease of immigration (particularly within european countries) how many generations will it be until national identity is flaky, but skin colour will also become less prominent biologically? Not to derail this thread too much from its original purpose but don`t forget the EU motto "United in diversity". I don`t think anyone in EU has as a goal turning its population into one nation. The countries in EU may share political structures but they are completely different culturally, historically, etc. IMO the disappearance of that difference will be a great loss of cultural heritage, of centuries old traditions and customs. Currently many countries have huge problems with money, people (low growth) and other issues. EU itself is not going to be one super country with one nation a'la USA (that projest has been rejected as far I know). I think these differences are nice :) I never said it`s wrong being from UK, but liking a country or a nation is one thing, throwing away your origin is another. If you see how life look in all aspects (social, cultural, state, political and others...) and compare it to your own country you have doubts. A lot of doubts.
