In a new max file.

1st I've made MaxSuperficial-> Superficial objects -> Import -> Onlay_VPP.sup After this i can see all the airfields in max.

2nd I've saved the file as Onlay_VPP.max

3rd MaxSuperficial-> Superficial objects -> Export -> Onlay_VPP.sup (i've got an error that "Level Of Detail not defined"

So 4th in MaxSuperficial-> Superficial parameters -> Level Of Detail i've set 0

Than i did the 3rd part again and no error the Onlay_VPP.sup file exists. But in the game no airfields are present. :(

The futur plugins maybe ?

That sucks... they are not working in Vista/7 64 bit?

Can anyone release a step by step guide (detailed) how to create a map using landsat and 3dsmax2008 for blackshark, because i have a lot of problems with the guide at wiki.eagleforum.

Thanks in advance

It would take me a long time to rewrite an entirely new guide and unfortunately I do not have the time to do that right now. Please post any specific questions here and I will try to answer them.

Have you tried using max 32bit in windows 64bit using the plugins? The current plugins are only 32bit. Eagle is creating new plugins to meet new formats that are going to be used in the future.

It appears that FC2 has drastically altered the way terrain colors are rendered. The colors seem much darker and bolder at altitude, but even more so now at lower altitudes, creating a problem with clashing colors again. I'll post a tutorial once I figure out a solution to this problem.

I think they probably eliminated the "advanced haze" that could be found in lockon 1.x. It was removed from black shark, so my guess they did the same with lockon 2..

Dave, have you found a solution to this? I'm trying to make the terrain contrast and colors more similar to the LOMAC terrain now.

Does anyone know how to add trees to the original scenery? Trees eat almost no FPS, so I would love to have more forests and trees around airbases and "empty" surfaces in BS/FC2.

Any help greatly appreciated!

In either case below, you will need 3D Max and the ED created plug-ins.

This would be one way...

http://en.wiki.eagle.ru/wiki/Create_objects

Another way...

On the main Wiki page follow the procedures for placing objects...

I got it, and I think I just reverse engineered how ED has been making their terrain...

Just a heads up, when importing using the tools, lots of the user defined data gets lost.

OK heads up terrain builders:

Since FC2 does not utilize advanced haze, we'll need a special method for creating the terrain surface BMP files. I've gotten a process down that I'd like to call the hybrid method, which really is a combination of the DEM and the satellite data. I actually think Eagle Dynamics used this method for their terrain as well, as the results look very similar. I will make a tutorial for this soon. Here are some pics to show what I'm talking about.

The landsat7 images did not look like this in FC1.x (see http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=874574&postcount=90) but since the haze in the game has changed we'll need to adapt and use this new method if we want the terrain to look good from all altitudes without color clashing or loss of detail from reducing contrast/saturation.

Not only does the terrain generated from this method look better from different angles and altitudes, it also feels organic to the LOMAC engine and universe. It also can be applied to future theaters.

I just verfied with ED's terrain lead that they have been using satellite pictures combined with Terragen. This gives me some ideas...

What do you guys think of this? Terragen used as a color overlay on top of Landsat7 imagery to prevent color clashing at low altitudes:

6000 feet AGL showing off some new noise textures

30,000 feet AGL, with better colors:

Obviously the vegetation colors are a little off for Manchuria, but we can save this particular shader for Venezuela or Indonesia.

FYI:

Use in Software including GIS software, flight simulators etc: You may not scrape or otherwise export Content from Google Maps or Earth for use within another application. For offline imagery or mapping with your own datasets, please learn about our Google Earth Enterprise product.

Don't use Google Earth for your map if you want to put it up for download or use it for an official/unofficial addon.

Grab the noncopyright raw NASA public domain Landsat7's from this site: http://glcf.umd.edu/index.shtml and then follow the tutorial on how to combine the color channels on the Geotiffs.

Using a terragen shader, I rendered a small slice of Alaska at 1024 resolution (default is 512). It looks pretty good, and similar to the regular LOMAC engine terrain except more detailed:

kb6gip.jpg

2a4wv0l.jpg

Since public domain Landsat7 data is limited in resolution and terragen is infinite in how detailed it can be, I think the best solution would be to go about hybridizing terragen and landsat7 imagery.
