  1. 1. v1.2 Poll Market Research Poll - Ka-50 or F/A-18?

Recommended Posts

Sorry for doing this SwingKid, but I just couldn’t resist.

Your poll was v1.2 Poll Market Research Poll - Ka-50 or no?

My poll is v1.2 Poll Market Research Poll - Ka-50 or F/A-18?

ED is a small software developer with limited resources. When making new products, they must choose which features to develop, and which not to develop.

Now should the do the Ka-50 or the F/A-18 for there next flyable?

I hope that al of you Flight Sim jockeys out there will vote on mass.

Absolutely no question as to which most western jetheads would prefer.

FA/18

I've been resurrecting Janes FA-18, reinstalling Falcon 4 as an FA-18 sim and considering buying the old GSC Hornet sim.

I would pay double for a modern FA-18 sim over a KA-50 sim.

Depends where ED see their market.

Maybe if we all buy 1.1 over the web there is a chance, but I doubt it personally.

Cheers,

Keith

Aaah come on ;)

We all know the Hornet is no option. Would I prefer it? Sure, along with enhanced naval environment and of course a MiG-29K. Hey and throw in a Strike Eagle while we're at it ;)

But anyway, not gonna happen this time...

What would ED do if we vote in big numbers and the outcome would be?

- 5000 or more for F/A 18

- 50 for Ka-50

Please make your Flight Sim friend vote on mass and who knows what ED could and will do for version 1.3

Assuming those 5000 people would definitely buy it, they would have to decide if they could develop a Hornet (and the required additional features) within a budget of roughly 175,000$. And they'd have to decide if it's worth the trouble with their Russian publisher that expects them to do a Ka-50 addon first ;)

The F-18 requires readical aditions to the code wich is probably never going to hapen, as much I liked it to though... :(

This has been mentioned numerous times before.

It's obvious that the F-18 would increase sales in the Western market.

But I have to say that I don't want many flyables. I'd buy the 1.2 if it have better AI, better flightmodels for the planes already in the game and fixes than another plane.

But like is stated, any two seater or a plane with MFD (or MDF, not sure) can't be made due to limitations in lo-mac. So if a F-18 were to be made, it would take a long long time based on a modified lo-mac engine. And since they don't have a publisher in the west I think getting the money and getting the distribution needed for that can be really really hard.

I am really happy with the game in the 1.02 state and the 1.1 is a major leap forward. I am yet to see what 1.1 brings and from there see what 1.2 might bring.

But like I said. I'd be more happy with updated flightmodel, better AI (both air and ground) than get another plane to fly. 9 planes (with SU-25T) is more than enough, I can fly them all (except the SU-25T since 1.1 ain't out), but I haven't mastered one yet.

Out of those two I preffer Ka-50 - simply because there is no decent chopper sim on the market, so this would bring "new quality" to Lock On. F/A-18 is "just another airplane" for me.

However I think that ED should focus on makeing LockOn more "in-depth" (adding Dynamic Campaign, AFM, better AI, more in depth modelling of all aircraft systems, etc.), but this is getting more challenging with every new flyable. :?

EDIT:

Noticed, earlybird told that already:

Voted for neither. For me new flyables are likely to divert resources

from things that are more important: flight models, flight models and flight models Oh, and other game play and immersion feature sdiscussed at length elsewhere.

Out of my mouth exactly!

I could like the KA-50 very much, it would be unprecedented that we can fly fixed wing planes and a helo at one time. But i admit, that it wouldnt attract as many player as an F/A-18 addon would. I could dream with KA-50 in the single player as a brand new feeling. But i want much more bigger multiplayer gaming community for this game and F/A-18 could be the key.

As for new improvements: without dedicated server, improved mission editor F/A-18 worth nothing. Not to mention the difficulties of the distribution in the US.

Thats exactly right, hopefully the next sim after v1.2 will be something that is along those lines. Hopefully v1.2 will keep us all going until the next sim is created.

How about creating a dynamic campaign and dedicated server first? We really don't need more flyables.

But if you incist I would like to see some swedish fighters. No game has had them before

F/A-18 for the LOMAC Successor

I don't think it's in the code base and the publishing details that the F/A-18 is profitable and workable for an add-on.

Better off with a new engine and a new publishing deal withe the successor of LOMAC

 Wait a sec! I haven't named the successor yet. I'll leave it to another thread.

First I tought that poll is a jocke, but it seems it is serious...

One of the few real Ka-50 alternatives for the 1.2 addon would be the Su-17. It shares the same weapons and and avionics as the vanilla Su-25, therefore it would be doable in a similar dimension as is the Ka-50. Basically the Su-17 would be something like a afterburner equipped Su-25 on steroids :) Altough I guess it isn't very well known in the west, I would consider it as a very fine choice for a relative "simple", eastern marked oriented addon for Lock On. Personaly I would prefer an addon without a new flyable, but I understand that it is difficult to sell an addon without "anything new". So the Su-17 could be a doable alternative.

But a F/A-18 for 1.2 ? That is just wishfull thinking. And 1.2 will defenitly be the end of the Lock On.

1.1 or 1.2 the end of Lock On ?

And 1.2 will defenitly be the end of the Lock On.

Version 1.2 the end of Lock On?

Actually I've been thinking that version 1.1 is the end of Lock On. It's because as far I remember ED guy once said on UBI forums that they are authorized by UBI to make just one addon for Lock On title. (or maybe it was two?)

I'd love to see Ka-50 in the sim. I've never seen a sim that combines aircrafts and helicopters.

I don't fly western planes in Lock On. However F/A-18 would at last add naval operations on the western side - great for MP. Ka-50 in MP would be just something to shoot or escort.. nothing more.. oh and coop missions.

Nah. MP needs F/A-18. I'd like more to see carrier vs carrier ops.

F-18 --C? D? Anyway, I chose Ka-50 because:

--there is no decent helo sim on the market

--avionics are easier to implement

--Boeing would harass ED for royalties if they chose to do the F-18, just like Northrop-Grumman did to Oleg Maddox.

Basically, introducing F-18 into the game would be a major PITA and could easily never happen. That's why it's realistic to look forward to Ka-50, and I do.

Why would TFC/ED waste effort and money on an F/A-18, a Western aircraft that will be popular in that market, for a product that is no longer being supported by it's Western publisher?

Better to concentrate major efforts like including a flyable Hornet in the next simulation. Lock On is published in Russia/CIS by 1C and they have supported new add ons featuring Russian aircraft. As long as there is a market in Russia/CIS and 1C is willing to pay for the development then it makes sense to me that that is the way to proceed regarding Lock On.

A new simulation, being published independently is the way to go for more Western aircraft.

Just my opinion.

I would agree with Stormin, I would wait until the release of another product before adding any other western aircraft.

It’s a lot different than releasing Russian aircraft because of the circumstances behind Lock-on and the CIS market.

Personally, I have absolutely no interest in any western aircraft. However, others do and it would definitely bring more people to Lock On, and give a possibility to make more complex online missions and such.

But for myself only I would prefer Ka-50 or another Russian aircraft, like MiG-29K.

agreed but don't forget the MiG-21.

Yeah, it would be really useful against those F-15's with 8 amraams  .
