  1. 1. v1.2 Market Research Poll - Ka-50 or no?

    • am happy with the existing list of flyable aircraft. I would rather buy v1.2 if it did NOT include any new flyable aircraft.
    • A new paid-for add-on like v1.2 requires a new flyable aircraft. I would not buy v1.2 unless it had a flyable Ka-50.

I'd prefer AFM for all of the existing models, dedicated server and fixes to the F15 radar. It doesn't represent all of the radar modes available to the blue team pilot.

I think that Ka-50 is a logical choice for ED next addon. Due to its standard Kamov contra rotating system, its controls are simple compared to other helo's, it apparently shares much of Su-25 cockpit instrumentation, similar weapon set, so less work for Devs to do there too. Nevertheless, I'm sure it will take a deal of development effort and money to do. It expands Lockon into new territory - Helo Sims (and hopefully lots of new customers). More customers means more money for ED to hopefully expand Lockon even more with a v1.3.

We western customers just have to realise that Russian add-ons make a lot of sense to ED because (a) majority of customers are in CIS (b) marketing in CIS is easier for ED © they can get technical info on Russian aircraft.

Like many folks I would love to see Western flyable XXX added (where XXX is different strokes for different folks). F/A-18 seems favorite since it would appeal to Yanks,Aussies,Canucks,Spanish,Finnish, etc, etc. Likelyhood of seeing it, honestly? I'd say one chance in four. I don't have to be happy about it, just accept that it is realistic....

I`d rather have various improvements to the current features than a new flyable. Lomac has enough flyables as it is and I think that they should focus on perfecting the sim they now have.

LOMAC needs a good mission editor, I`m sick of mission that are just seek and destroy or go destroy that then get back. I would like mission to be more immersive. Like adding aircraft packages that interact between each other to complete the mission. I`d like the AWACS telling me to go help this Flight because it is in deep trouble, I`d like the ATC to divert me to other field, ect.. I`d like my coalition to have a limited amount of fuel, supplies and Weapons, I`d like them to have a real army. To sum it up, I`d like a real battlefield. A dynamic campaign. Something I have not seen in Falcon4 that I`d like getting implemented is the coordination between flights. For example if you are escorting a strike flight, and you see enemy fighters you will tell the strike package what to do, where to move and if they need to go defensive because you can´t get there fast enough. Or at least you can hear them on the radio asking for help. In Falcon4 they just go plain defensive they don`t care if you are engaging them or not.

I`ll also vote for realist avionics. I think that with 1.1 we are already getting an avionics update, but I think that there is more improvements to be made to the current ones. I would go as far as modelling everything except of course classified, well not that far :) An example is the CRT monitor in the Su-27, I`ve seen videos that it shows the Aircraft Datum, altitude and speed (at least)

The AI needs improvement, they need to be told in what type of mission they are, because there is no difference between A2A tasks and A2G tasks except for the type of ordenance released. Their situational awareness needs to be improved, sometimes they seem to have a sixth sense for finding you, or the IR missiles you fired at them from behind with the EOS.

I would also like the AFM implemented on all flyable aircrafts. It is just not right to do the updates to only a few planes, it doesn´t seem even, and frankly it`s un-professional. I completly understand that ED dind´t make it for this release, but please for the next one :)

SK, you've made a most balanced poll I ever saw on forums :)

Tough choice here! First of all I am buying future Lock On editions PERIOD! With or with out new flyables!

I voted for Ka-50! Because there has not been a decent combat helicopter flight sim ever! Show me one!? Airplanes have been modeled to death! ENOUGH AIRPLANES! Give us a helicopter.

Keep in mind that Ross McGreggor is working on STORM dynamic campaign engine. So we may have a decent dynamic campaign to paly with in near future.

I believe that flyable Helicopter would bring more people into Lock On. And just imagine how cool it would be to fly somethign other than airplane!!

Uhm ... Jane's LongBow 2? ;)

Longbow 2 was a game not a simulator. Easy flight model, weapons were way too "good", target ID was automatic and etc. So yes, it was a good game, but not a simulator.

Just think about real Longbow performace in the last Golf war and military confrotation over Jugoslavia.

In golf war, the first Longbow kill was a friendly kill!

Longbow helicopters could not even fly over Yugoslavia! You remember, two of them crashed in exercises over Albania! The only airman casulties in Yugoslavia were those of the Longbow that crashed while trying to fly over complicated terein over Albania!

So, flying a helicopter is a real chalange!

People are less likely to pay for improvements than they would for a new flyable. Its unfeasible to me for them not to do the ka50, particularly that most of the weapons are already modeled after v1.1. Having the first flyable helo in lockon will change the gameplay by quite a bit. Especially how deadly one of these is against other aircraft.

cheers

Apache Longbows could not fly over Yugoslavia because of political reasons (something about not wanting to start any rumours of a ground invasion), not the fact that they were physically unable to. And the crashes could just as easily be attributed to pilot error or freak accidents.

And the weapons weren't way too good in Longbow 2. It's more like the threat wasn't as intense as it should be to cause an AH-64 to break (or keep moving) and lose guidance of its weapons (i.e. no insurgent or militant in t-shirt and jeans sneaking beneath your chopper to stuff an RPG up your tail rotor).

And I would like to know this first friendly Longbow kill in the 'Golf' War.

I have to agree here. Having a western multi-role fighter (F/A-18) would balance the sim and would definately bring a lot of new simmers into lockon.

I would like to see the AFM incorporated into the other flyables in 1.2, it would only be fair and again balanced to have it in all the aircraft. Even though a helicopter sim is a cool idea, and should be pursued, I would like things first to be fixed, and AFM on all the existing flyables before any new flyables are added.

I voted for B, Other improvements, because at least 1 of them would be a major improvement. A dynamic campaign or a dedicated server with base-to-base air wars or a large quantity of contents(campaigns+AI improvements.)

The Ka-50 would rock but if given the choice, what he said.

It all depends on the features present instead of a new flyable...that being said, I am a complete fanboy and will buy anything ED releases. It costs about 1/2 the money I spend on a night out, so I recoup my expenses four times the first weekend I have it.

Ditto. I'd really like the Ka-50, but if the right areas were worked on I could do without. Can't really say which I'd prefer w/o knowing what would hypothetically be improved in its place.

And we (almost) all agree that an F-18 would be nice to have. The idea was beaten to death and then beaten some more over on the Ubi boards. It would add a lot to the sim, but don't hold your breath.

I fly LOMAC for the multiplayer experience, and I don't see the Ka-50 bringing anything wonderful to that arena... unless it was a big chopper coop--which doesn't really interest me either.

I would much rather see ED invest their efforts in improving many of the aspects of the current game. Some ideas come to mind, but I won't go into detail as they've all been discussed in this forum already...

A dedicated server with plenty of tools.

Really, really solid net code. ;)

AFM for all aircraft.

Improved navigation aids, such as a manually adjustable CDI needle.

A fully clickable cockpit.

Improved SAM behaviour and logic (e.g. realistic detection-to-launch times).

Improved avionic and radar detail (e.g. all the F-15 TWS modes, realistic STT acquisition delays for all aircraft, contacts that don't magically update their aspect/position on the HDD until they're swept with a fresh radar beam, an AWACS that has realistic detection limits, AWACS Dolly link for the F-15 radar).

Improved tower AI and things like working glide slope lights.

A pitching carrier deck.

A flyable F/A-18 Hornet (ya right!).

A 3D mission editor.

Just some passing thoughts... I'm sure ED has had plenty of good ideas of their own and will ignore all of my own. I just hope they don't waste ALL of their time on eye candy. IMHO I think the game looks as good as it needs to. LOMAC is already the best looking modern flight-sim out there, however there are plenty of other areas in which it could stand a good deal of improvement.

I voted (B) because I'd rather prefer ED to spend their time and resources improving certain areas of the sim, ie:

1. AFM for all flyables (or at least for Su27 and/or MiG29 :D )

2. Improved NAV system (navaids, selectable Course, etc)

3. Even more realistic avionics.

4. Improved NET code, if possible.

5. Dedicated Server.
