New Roles for the F-1

Aerges said somewhere on YT that they would like to include Exocets at some point, so we're definitely getting anti-shipping missiles. Sea mine laying seems less likely since it would probably require lots of work on ED's sight (and idk whether they had that capability in the first place).

I'd be happy if we get the exocet, but harpoons are a no-no. Never operated on the aircaft (afaik).
As for mine laying, yeah, unlikely.
I m gonna remain optimistic for the ASM's

"definitely" might be too strong a word here.

I would like to see AZ and CZ versions with an Angola 1980 map. For those who do not know, the Z variants were South African export versions, and they saw extensive combat in the conflict on Angola's southern border. The AZs did low level supersonic ingress strike missions and the CZs did escort for the AZs and other planes, like recon Canberra bombers. Their main adversary was the MiG 21 flown by Cuban pilots, although they probably also went up against MiG 17 and MiG 19s.

MiG 21 later varients and then some MiG 23MFs for the most part. They didn't engage very much because the South Africans didn't want their limited supply of planes and munitions to dwindle for what was kinda considered a minor conflict, and on the other hand the Cubans helping the Angolians it seems were generally not keen to put pilots and equipment into to much risk, the south Africans as a result never used there more modern missiles, and once they faced MiG 23s with front aspect missiles they took to avoiding them and attacking at low altitude.

Yes, the weapons boycotts of the 80s made airframes almost more valuable than gold. They couldn't afford to lose any. The South Africans developed their own short range IR missile to replace the unobtainable Magics. I don't know if they were used at all though.

Can we pretty please agree to use the correct names of aircraft? 😉

This is an F-1 (which we're not getting in DCS - at least not yet):

nhungdoicanh: Mitsubishi F-1

RAZBAM has shoWw some time ago a exocet launcher, but not sure if ED has plans to build the exocet missile. RB can send to ED and implement them into DCS.

Well the Type 148 Tiger [La Combattante IIa] should have MM38 Block I, instead of the incorrect RGM-84D that it has now, fairly sure BIGNEWY mentioned that they'll do the Exocet in Discord when I mentioned it, but no timeline yet. EDIT: Here's the link.

Though regarding the F1, I'm not too sure about having Exocets on aircraft that never had Exocet; if we had an F1EQ-5/6, sure thing. That's if they're going for specifically Spanish Mirages (which would seem to be the case seeing as they are  specifically Spanish variants).

In a forum about the Mirage F1, we can assume what people mean when they say "F-1" Can we all agree on that? 🙂

Even as a Japanese, I would never mistake "F-1" here for a Mitsubishi build. I'm rather surprised that there are people overseas who know about Mitsubishi F-1.

That aside, ever since the MirageF1CR appeared in the trailer video, I've been anticipating the arrival of an operable reconnaissance mission plane. Making bombing effect determinations from a reconnaissance aircraft's camera would make the missions even more fun.

An Exocet is possible given that the Harrier we have in game has a Maverick it never mounted or used IRL.
So a precedent has already been set.

Haven’t you ever seen True Lies, where the Av8s knock out the bridge with Mavs?

Well, Mitsubishi F-1 was pretty important jet, and not many countries had introduced fully domestic design. Looks sweet, too! 🙂 It would be nice to have it in DCS, actually.
