Single-player bombing in F-14B

Recommended Posts

I am happily dogfighting in the Turkey and I am happy. But I cannot help but wonder how this plane does the other things, naming moving mud.

So how does it do, as a person who flies entirely solo, in the ground attack department?

I don’t want to stir things up, so please be polite.  Thank you in advanced.

What you wanna know?

Self-lasing GBUs only with Jester-LANTIRN mod currently (for MP/SP) or jumping between the seats in SP but the Jester is gonna learn it very soon.

I used the F14 mostly in the Air to Air department. But the few times I've tried it it is surprisingly accurate and easy to use with "dumb" bombing. If I remember correctly Jabbers made some really great videos on the subject back in the day, check out his channel. https://www.youtube.com/c/Jabbers

Speaking of the impending Jester upgrade... Can anyone clue us in on how this is going to work? I'm really curious to know how ground target acquisition is implemented with Jester.

The shortest description would be:

You tell Jester to move the sensor to an approximate location of the targets using existing waypoints, map markers or your head/view, and then you ask him to search for targets of a given type. You can also switch between different targets he finds with the pod. The rest is more or less automatic.

Thanks for everyone contributing the answers.

I wish to try A2G and I heard something not-so-good about it. But after reading all your helpful advice, I think I am giving it a go (and make a mission or two)

Its my F-111. I throw more free-fall bombs around than I do missiles, and I hit what I aim at with Mk-82, 83, 84 and 20's (wish it could fit more Rockeyes though). Plus, 14x Mk-82's under the belly, whats not to like.

Update: I bring out my XBox controller as the controller for LANTIRN, I cannot afford another stick and the regular mapping almost uses up my T16K...

Dumb bombs is easy. Tell Jester to set the fuse and ripple, go to A/G and line em up.

Hi

If you don't go AG from time to time you miss much of the fun

You can even use lantirn in SP, no need any mod, just set Jester inactive, I usually do it without any issue but you have to be super fast switching between RIO and pilot and you need a good hotas setup

Regards

I do the same but I don't set Jester to inactive.  Haven't had a problem that way but maybe I should set him inactive.  Anyway, it's a dance switching from fron to back seat back and forth but fun.  I just wish LANTIRN could search a buddy lase.

Iron dumb is, I agree, more accurate than I thought.  I'm not a fan however with the CCIP pipper being on the BFL like it is because when it gets on target, it seems to always be right where it says "ORD" and I can't see it as well.

CCRP--I haven't had good results for accuracy, at least not as much as CCIP (Really I should be saying computerr pilot, computer target).  It's hard to see the upper and lower bomb cues.

BUT...I still have fun with it!

boNes

It was fun before they broke Iceman with the autopilot changes. I really hope Iceman fixes are coming soon. It's very difficult to practice backseat stuff currently.

Have you tried HUD declutter? I can't remember if it hides "ORD" but I recently started using it to get rid of some of the clutter of symbology at the top of the HUD when strafing.

Just when I bought an X-56 stick with broken axis for solo LANTIRN... Great work HB, for outdoing yourself all the time. Keep it up!
