Steam DCS will not launch after latest update

Recommended Posts

I was logging into DCS for a mission today and three of us all running DCS through Steam received the message

"Important files are damaged: Please, repair.

Check dcs.log for details (log below)."

Woth the game failing to launch. All of us had previously run the game within the past 2 days with no issues. We verified file integrity with no affect and one of us reverted and still was unable to open. One also turned off antivirus with no affect.

DCS log files for all three state,

"ALERT SECURITYCONTROL: Can't run Steam!"

As best we can tell this is an issue introduced with the newest steam update. I've done the normal googling and nothing seems to be popping up. If anyone is encountering this or has a fix guidance would be appreciated/ED this may be a bigger problem if three people are having the same issue with nothing in common other than steam version.

I am getting the same error, it's been working fine until now, no problems what so ever and all of a sudden I get this error.  Below is what was in my dcs.log.

We are looking into this but dont have any answer yet, the stable and open beta on steam are the same currently, there should be no problem.

The steam client update hopefully fixes this for people.

thanks

Hi all,

just to update you all on this it seems there is a binary issue with steam beta client and DCS, the team are looking for a solution.

As a work around you can launch DCS using the DCS.exe and bypass the steam library.

Thank you

Removing Steam beta also works immediately.

I have this exact issue on steam open beta since the last client update(10-29-2021). DCS worked perfectly fine 10min before the update. In multi- and singleplayer.

The steam repair tool couldn't solve it either.

Zitat

Nope, I get the same "Can't run" error message. I closed steam, clicked on the .exe and got the same message as if I would open it in steam directly.

I am currently re-installing DCS, but for me it's nearly 150GB so this might take a while. XD

Maybe this is unrelated, but I found something weird in my DCS DLCs:

There seems to be something wrong with the timestamp (Unix Epoch ?) for the Mariana Islands Map DLC. Is it possible that this can have a negative effect on something?

kind regards

ok guys,

if someone still has this problem, with the help of the support guys I finally managed to get DCS to run again!!

Problem was that I didn't remember that I not only switched DCS to open beta (right click on the game in steam library). But also switched steam itself to the beta client (Steam -> Options -> beta subscriptions (loosely translated)). So basically those are two different things. I remembered that I thought like one year ago when I wanted to change to open beta, that you also need the steam beta client for this. But at least now I can say that after the unsubscription from steam beta, DCS still stayed in open beta (2.7.7). This just initiated a steam update and directly after it, DCS started without a problem again.

I just played DCS a couple days ago no problems, then I purchased some things on sale today and tried to launch DCS and I got the errors everyone is mentioning above. "Can't Run - Important files are damaged: Please, repair. Check dcs.log for details."

??????

Edit: I verified game files, didn't help. My drivers are up to date. Steam client is up to date. I also tried running the DCS.exe directly from C\Program Files(x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\DCSWorld\bin  but I got the same error.

Edit 2: As the above poster suggested, going into steam options and "Opting out" of steam beta resolved this for me. Thanks.

Getting the same error. Unable to workaround by clicking on DCS.exe as suggested. Validated game files. Next step?

Edit: Neither Steam nor DCS is on Beta channel for me.

Update to DCS open beta public version on steam as a work around

it seems steam have pushed the steam beta client to steam normal client creating problems for DCS stable users.
