VR (hp reverb g2) Game crash trying to load a mission file (steam)

While trying to load any mission file the game always crashes. (it crashes before i get to the editor)

I have tried verify game files and the first time it found some missing files, but even after that it crashes. Tried verifying again but it did'nt find anything.

It's a fresh install without any mods.

Game works fine out of vr but I did notice that when i launched the game out of vr it does the first time installation thing every time (checked 3 times).

After changing to an  earlier graphics driver (nvidia Driver Version: 471.11 - Release Date: Tue Jun 22, 2021) i get into instant action cold and dark on caucasus but it crashes when i press quit and it still crashes when trying to load in the editor.

Your zip file doesn't contain the dcs.log file, but from what I see in the .crash file (which is a tiny extract of the dcs.log file), it looks like a memory crash.

Ah, much better, thank you. This time, it doesn't look like a memory crash.

This reminds me of something. I'll try to find a similar issue someone had a few months ago.

@Flappie i tried again as i was uncertain what crash that log was from.

This is also a completely fresh install.

I have had a coupel of diffrent looking crashes.

Some just kick me back to the steam home view, others kick me back to WMR home screen. I have also had a couple of full on bluesceens.

This one kicked me back to WMR

blue screens usually point to hardware problems so check your windows event viewer.

I would manually increase your pagefile

CPU cores: 8, threads: 16, System RAM: 16292 MB, Pagefile: 9216 MB

increase the pagefile to 16292 MB same as your RAM and see if it helps

Now after doing this i get a new errorcode on the desktop after the game crashes.

I also found this in the event viewer

do you have any other software running in the background?

The crash in the log points to a memory issues and the display driver crashing

dcs.log

I then restarted to check the mission file i have been testing on (on syria map) it crashed as usual

I also monitored task manager to see what was going on with the memory and it got all the way to 97% at the peak.

  • Solution

@Petter1 It still says out of memory. If you are on steamvr beta, try the normal build. Set the preload radius to about a third of the maximum. Try again with all other apps closed and nothing running in the background.
How much space to you have left on your drive?

  • Thanks 1

I checked in his dxdiag log. His C:/ drive has 50 GB left, which should be enough for the pagefile.

I'm concerned about the RAM: as BIGNEWY stated, a blue screen often means there's a hardware failure, and the Our of Memory errors could mean a part of the RAM is unusable.

@Petter1Please try the Windows Memory diagsnotic tool.

I just did and came back with no errors.

  • 2 months later...

Hi, I will add my experience ...
I have 64Mb RAM, HP Reverb G2, GPU: RTX 3080

I switched from Rift S to HP Reverb G2 and almost immediately started solving the problem of outages and failures of Steam VR. I have never experienced anything like this on an old set. Getting into the game was a simple problem.

I found that it had something to do with system requirements, such as a clean map loading and flying, more complex stored missions with many units falling. Immediately after loading, there was a crash of Steam VR, restart of VR, etc.

Try to reduce the graphics settings a bit, but the main problem for me was the motion smoothing settings and the pre-rendered VR images settings.

In the nVidia settings tab, try deselecting allowed images from a fixed value to "by application" and try. If the problem persists, cancel forced motion smoothing in Steam VR settings and leave the app to the decision.

This seems to have solved my problem, I haven't thoroughly tested it, so far it's the first findings from the last two days, but after these adjustments I'm already flying my saved complex and demanding missions.

Maybe it will help someone.

AMD 5800X, 64GB RAM, RTX3080, HP Reverb G2
