DCS World RTX3080Ti vs GTX1080 FPS Test

Recommended Posts

I was finally able to upgrade to an RTX3080Ti from a GTX1080. In case anyone else is thinking of doing the same, I made a video comparing the performance of the two. In some cases, I had more than twice the frames of the 1080, so there is definitely headroom here.

I can both FPS values, FPS seems capped to 59 in the first part with the carrier and the F-14's on the 3080ti. For the rest of the video, FPS shows correct values for both.

Personal Wish List: A6 Intruder, Vietnam theater, decent ATC module, better VR performance!

Thanks. I was about to start a topic with just that question ,"should I upgrade my gtx1080".

Looks like there is a significant gain. Now I need to decide whether to stretch for 3090 or if 3080 will be sufficient.  Expense is a factor, but mostly it's the availability that will need to be overcome.

What is your take guys on 3080 vs 3090 ?

10700 is my CPU if that matters,  running 3 screens

Thanks again @SignorMagnifico for this helpful comparison video! 👍

May I give you one small and friendly suggestion though?

Sell that old fashioned 2D image device (believe it's called a monitor), loose the TrackIR and get yourself a proper HMD

(oh and after that, create another VR comparison video for us :renske:)

I have a 3080 and it's a beast but it only has 10GB RAM. ( Depending on how my settings are, I consistently use over 7.5GB and sometimes max out my 10GB of my VRAM)
If money was not a concern I'd go with the 3090 because it has 24GB RAM.

Does that really matter?  Not sure, but If I had an extra $2500, I'd buy a 3090.  🙂 LOL

I'm running 3 screens (7680x1440) as well and upgraded from a 1080 Ti to a RX 6800 XT. I thought the speed and the extra VRAM would give me a boost but this is not the case. 10% was my gain and I am really really disappointed about this. But anyway, if you go for Nvidia the benefit should be larger, they seem to handle very high resolutions in a better way. Going from a 1070 to the 1080 Ti brought me 25% boost at that time with the same 3 screen config. So go for Nvidia if available and take the 3090 if money plays no major rule. Hands off AMD for a config like mine. I wasn't able to find information about this before and went the expensive way and figured this out by myself. Your CPU is more than enough.

AMD is good in 1440p in DCS, I raised the FPS by appr. 25% over the 1080 Ti.

I hope this helps.

I did exactly the same thing as you. Upgraded to an RTX 3080ti from a GTX 1080. The only thing that's holding me back now is my 5 year old i7 6700K. Nevertheless, I went from an average of 40-60 fps to a staggering 120-130 fps. Pretty huge performance boost. Once I upgrade my CPU as well, it will boost even more.

This is disappointing performance by 3080 Ti. Perhaps its your settings.I expected above 150 and be able to do 240 fps to make use of latest 240hz refresh rate screens and VR. We need to compare settings. FPS on your  3080TI rig  is similar to my RTX 2060Super FE on HP Z440 with E5-1630 v4 64gb ram (2666 ECC), with DCS 2.7.latest beta single screen 2560X1440 @ 144zh refresh rate. Rule of thumb is that FPS should be equal or near to your display refresh rate for optimum look and performance. Mine is 2560 X 1440 @ 144
