There is no need to wait, this is already implemented and working.

I tried to make a short video of it but the track is not playing back correctly and i don't think recording in VR would be pleasant to watch.

1. -> activate before hooking the cargo

2. -> activate after hooking and lifting the cargo up in the air

The cargo will be auto unhooked after touching the ground, i didn't look for manual release in the key bindings because i use the auto unhook always in the MI-8.

EDIT:

I did a quick and dirty try flying 2d and recording at the same time, so forgive the crappy views. (should be 1440p after YT processing)

As expected sling loading is bugged. You can lift the cargo but it has 0 weight. You lift 4,000kg pipes like a bog roll. It has zero impact on Hind performance. Do a simple test. Lift the heaviest cargo you can, go into hover and release the cargo. Hind won't move an inch.

If you want to check how it should work try lifting cargo in Huey or download old DCS build from November last year and do it in Hip.

The question from the OP was how you do it (hook/unhook cargo) to do sling load operations, your answer was you think it's not implemented yet. So i showed how you can do it in case OP wants to try it for himself. Yes it is bugged(they probably copy/pasted the code from the Mi-8) but you can do it, i never said it is bug free. I don't remember how long this is bugged in the Mi-8, but you will probably get an WIP tag if you report this for the Mi-24....

My last post was not directed at you. I just wanted to point out that sling loading is bugged in both Hip and Hind, so OP and others should not get frustrated when their cargo starts swinging like crazy (because its weight is zero) for no reason. This bug was introduced around December last year in both stable and openbeta. I was hoping ED will fix it with release of Hind but I was wrong.

🍻 👍

My guess is they will fix it for the Mi-24 and backport it to the Mi-8.

As of 2.7.11 this is fixed. Regarding the cargo weight limitation for a hind with full fuel: You can technically take off and land with a 5000lb cargo but you'd be struggeling to hover still. I'd suggest staying below 4500lb with full fuel. If you only take 30% fuel ~1100lb you can carry crates over 7000lb!

How do you place objects to pick up? Add static items?

The JF-17 is not better than the F-16; it's different. It's how you fly that counts.

Static objects -> cargoes

Make sure 'can be cargo' is ticked and adjust the mass as desired, I'd also recommend giving it a recogniseable name.

Then in the mission, you use the communications menu to select the cargo, then either hover over it (at a height less than your rope length, which is set in the loadout window of the mission editor) or I think you can land next to it.

Then, all you do is press the keybind for "External Cargo Hook" under controls -> Mi-24P -> External Cargo, to hook the cargo.

As for releasing/dropping the cargo, there's several ways to do it:

  • On the front, right panel (where the oil temperature/pressure guages and the DISS-15 panel is) there's an automatic release switch, which I think will release the cargo once it has touched down.
  • On the collective, there's both an emergency unhook and a tactical unhook switch, which are both guarded.

Ahh! That's the part I missed!

Thanks for the procedures. Very useful!
