Is it easier to spot in VR or on a Flatscreen? A quick test video.

Recommended Posts

I've been hearing around the place that it is harder to spot in VR than on a monitor.
With the Reverb G2 and the Reshade for VR mod I feel this is no longer the case in DCS.

Spotting and IDing are two separate things, I still find IDing harder in VR than on a monitor.

What are your thoughts?

Sorry, off-topic but which Reshade are you using? A search here produces a couple of results.  Thank you.

Not at all, I'm using this one:

https://github.com/fholger/reshade/releases/tag/openvr_alpha2

But there is a faster one, no difference in terms of quality. I do run the sharpening settings up at .8 or .9 (for all 3 sharpening related settings).

Which would the faster one be? And does it work only with SteamVR games? I am using standalone version, so I dunno where to install the files to.

Back to topic, I don't fly combat in 2D so I cannot comment. Honestly, I am a little suspicious the spotting here is a bit "gamey" and I have not real-life comparison I can make.

Personally i find spotting a lot easier in VR (Rift-S, no extra shaders) then in 2D. But when i use both zoom functions things get harder to spot, certainly on magnifier zoom up to a point that i have to zoom back out to see that target again. Identifying is better in 2D.

Personal Wish List: A6 Intruder, Vietnam theater, decent ATC module, better VR performance!

LOL, yeah, i already looked one right in the face, millisecond for impact. I looked right and it was there, just in front of me and then... BOOM!

Reshade for VR makes things clear, I do not see any difference using Kegety shaders. Have you noticed difference in fps using kegety?

Yes, for me it's about 2ms. Which is around a 15% improvement.
With the IC pass for MP it's about 1.2 ms. Almost 10% still.
