Canapy Reflections destroys combat.

Latest OB. Pics Clear day, over coast/water on CA map.

Please fix hud sun & baked in canopy reflections. The Mig-21 is pretty much unusable now in dogfights & A2G. I can't see anything to the sides & through the hud.

Ok, whatever they are called then, but you don't see a problem here? Have you flown the mig-21 on the latest OB in a dogfight over the coast/water?

You're not even acknowledging there's a problem here?

Then change yours !!! Look at MIG-15 & its canopy reflections ! If other moduls are fine , then problem is on your side !  Mig -21 is the only one modul that break down after every update, or have the most failures in comparison to others !

Glass reflections appeared in all modules due to changes in materials introduced by ED in 2.7, there is nothing to change one our side and we are waiting for ED to provide tools to adjust level of reflectivity.

And I fly MiG-15. It's canopy reflections are the exact type of baked in reflections.

I noticed some flickering today in the canopy reflections, which hasn’t been an issue until now. Flickering is always distracting. Flight was out of TPH on the NTTR map under a rainy overcast. I’ll see if I can troubleshoot the culprit but fwiw I’m on an index and using nvidia drivers 466.11 (latest ones reportedly cause flickering, go figure).

Anyone know of a way to disable canopy reflections until the risk of seizures is addressed by ED? I don’t care about IC.

In my opinion, the dynamic reflections on Mig-21 are absolutely stunning and totally realistic. I was impressed that the M3 team brought the effect to us so early after it was introduced by the ED. It further shows how great support Mig-21 has from the M3 team. Others, including ED, do not support their modules as much. Mig-15 and L-39 still have the ugly unrealistic baked in reflections.

@Hiromachi @-Rudel-

Can this issue be related to thickness of canopy glass?

Default module Su-25T has the same sort of issues with overblown reflections. Externally, the canopy glass looks almost frosted.
The same goes for the MiG-21bis. Looking at CoBlue's screenshots you can also see from inside of cockpit that the glass is a bit dim.
A little bit like being inside a Crystal ball.

Some modules handles the reflections better, so that also leads me to think there is an issue that can be tweaked.

Its been reported that second loading of a module in a mission, will increase the reflections, and that is maybe why OP's reflections are super strong.

Yes, maybe. Here is also a comparison. On the MiG-15 reflections are more subtle. Might be a bug as you posted above, or might be related to material thickness. I do like the look of the new reflections, just need to dial it in. We need something that gives impression of realism but is also practical flying on a 2D display. It should enhance the overall experience.

Just in case.....the external glass has no effect in the cockpit view.

But we do have good news thanks to the Mi-24 testing.

We have incorporated a new lua found in the shapes folder that controls the image base lighting and reflections shader in the cockpit.

Doing trial runs now....

There was no single color. It changed during usage after every major maintenance/overhaul. Paint wore out and than cockpit would be repainted, more often than not, with paint different than used originally by manufacturer. I have pictures of both turquoise and blueish cockpits,

Similar thing can be said about exterior. I've read more than a few debates between modelers and former maintenance facilities workers and pilots trying to find out what color was used, what color was applied in year X and why the heck exterior colors from various years dont match.

On the attached picture you can see pretty well that under the blue paint there is turquoise one.

Anyway, we are away of the desire to have the turquoise color as default and Rudel will look into this when we can finally tackle Phase 2 of cockpit.

We are drifting a bit of topic. I have found the MiG-21 to mostly have three different colors (illustrated in picture below)

Turquoise
Turquoise-Green

Green (not as common as the first two)

Blue might also exist, but the ones I have managed find are not true blue,  more like a Turquoise-Blue mix. Over 11000 MiG-21's
was made and maintained, so there must have been some variations 🙂 Anyways, great to see that DCS: MiG-21bis still gets love.
Got it back in 2014 and Im always recommending a try or purchase when I can.

The cockpit color is based on a Bulgarian Bis.

I personally do not like the new reflections, they're annoying and I don't think they're very realistic (not that i can say for sure), looks like the glass has some kind of reflective coating on it, but really, they're not that bad compared to the old dirty glass that used to be there, and I can live with them.

also i think the cockpit colour doesn't matter that much, both blue and green are accurate, remember reading somewhere.

Perspex will throw some quite obnoxious reflections, especially in the right lighting conditions. It doesn't need any sort of coating, that's just how it is. As they are right now they're maybe a little too opaque, but they're not nearly as exaggerated as people are making out and while in real life you can focus your eyes past them, I haven't found them to "destroy combat". The most common reason I lose sight of people remains my own canopy bars, followed by visual clutter like trees or buildings, followed by (a new contender) cloud shadows. As I said in the other thread: if you think this is bad, be glad the canopy isn't nearly as scuffed or crazed as most real aircraft canopies are after a decade or two of service, and be glad you don't have to deal with distortion at all. Or bug guts, when flying low level in the summer.

I seriously hope the reflections aren't toned down too far, DCS already has enough issues with "I want realism, but not like this" any time a feature hampers a player's ability to perform, or makes them feel like it's hampering them.

For me your excuses  sound -stupid , like : "We create soviet plane , but with pit color of banana republic  !" (i dont mean Bulgaria , but the sence is that ) You can make any color you want even banana , but after creating historic original - Turquoise . Cause first of all MIG-21 is Soviet plane & its iconic for people who live on the territory of former USSR  !
