Lee1
Hi Guys, Because my machine only has 250GB of SSD Ram, my DCS is running from by HDD and will sometimes just stop while it catches up. Only for a couple of seconds but still can spoil the fun. If I buy a huge capicity extrernal SSD Ram will this stop the problem or should I just save lots and upgrade? Thanks Rgds Lee
reece146
We need more information to make suggestions. Can you describe your system? In general yes, but more details required. Bus connect speeds with respect to the vintage of your machine's external connectors and what else is available within the machine could be factors for a better solution. Also, if you are experiencing stutters, it might be more a system tuning or capacity issue than a hardware issue.
Lee1
Thanks reece146. It only stutters very occasionally and not every flight. I this any good to you, taken from a CPUID CPU-Z report. reece146
Is your computer a generic PC or a PC from HP, Dell, Lenovo, whomever? The text you provided tells us your CPU is a i7-2600K. I am guessing the external USB connections are going to be slow since the machine is quite old by computer standards. It also might not have many HDD/SDD ports. If you can verify how many storage drives (HDD and SSD) you have in your system and how many you can add total that would be helpful. If you don't want to take the machine apart to look for ports you can look on the BIOS setup screen - it should say what motherboard you have and then you can google. I would get an SSD to be mounted inside the case if it will fit. Ideally you would have Windows, DCS and the Windows pagefile.sys all on SSDs. If the machine is a brand name like HP or Dell it might have an external SATA connection but not likely. HTH
Lee1
Ok thanks. I know it was built in the local computer shop and has a Gigabyte Technology Z68XP-UD3P motherboard. I know it has a huge amount of USB connections of USB , USB2 and USB3 type. Got Win10 on the SSD and Office but there's only 92gb left after that. I have one SSD of 250gb, a 1tb HDD which runs DCS stable version and an external 1tb HDD that I have the Open Beta 2.7 on. I think my best option will be to save up my pennies for a decent computer (believe me THIS one is STREETS ahead of the one I had!!) and ask again for recommendations for a system before I get a new one. I freely admit to being a "user" rather than an understander in the same way that I drive a car but under the bonnet is a complete mystery to me. Thanks again Edited April 23, 2021 by Lee1
