9600K vs 9900K

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Current system:-

ROG Z390-H wiith I5 9600K @5.0Ghz

2080Ti

32Gb Memory

1Tb M2 drive

The fastest CPU my M/B will take is a 9900K.

Could someone tell me approximately what percentage increase I would get in DCS if I upgraded the CPU from 9600K to 9900K

Thanks

As I understand it, the differences between the 9600 and 9900 are the number of cores and hyperthreading.

DCS currently only use 1 and a bit cores.  So right now, I can't imagine the 9900 giving any significant benefits for DCS.

That will hopefully change in the future with the introduction of Vulkan and other enhancements to the game engine, but we won't know for sure until it gets here.

System: 9700, 64GB DDR4, 2070S, NVME2, Rift S, Jetseat, Thrustmaster F18 grip, VPC T50 stick base and throttle, CH Throttle, MFG crosswinds, custom button box, Logitech G502 and Marble mouse.

Server: i5 2500@3.9Ghz, 1080, 24GB DDR3, SSD.

I would keep my money in my pocket. Not worth the upgrade, not for DCS.

Win11 Pro 64-bit, Ryzen 5800X3D, Corsair H115i, Gigabyte X570S UD, EVGA 3080Ti XC3 Ultra 12GB, 64 GB DDR4 G.Skill 3600. Monitors: LG 27GL850-B27 2560x1440 + Samsung SyncMaster 2443 1920x1200, HOTAS: Warthog with Virpil WarBRD base, MFG Crosswind combat pedals, TrackIR4, Rift-S.

Personal Wish List: A6 Intruder, Vietnam theater, decent ATC module, better VR performance!

With OC to 5.3 i guess 2-5FPS. keep your 9600k in System, not worth it, if you ask me. I have a 8700k OC @5.0GHz and also thought to upgrade to 9900k, but it aint worth the money i think. As Mr_sukebe said, think about it when it matters of Vulkan in the Future.

Dustbag,

Hang on to your 9600K.

I'm using an i5-6600K that I dug up along with some dinosaur bones. Works just fine, runs at 4.5 GHz without too much trouble. The 9900K with eat a bunch of bread that deserves to be sat on until maybe the 12th gen i5 comes out--or even quite a while after that.

Your system looks really well-balanced and I'd just leave it alone, a 9900K is far too much cash to burn just for another 2-3 FPS! DCS 2.7 performs really well and you'll gain just about nothing anyway because all of those extra cores will just be sitting on their thumbs.

DCS World is clock-speed dependent and little else. Overclock your i5 and enjoy.
