How did you train the words?
And VAICOM doesn't use the comms menu actually, but will show it unless you have selected to hide it in the VAICOM control panel preferences.

I used the train voice feature of the VAICOM configuration panel, and at one point even went straight to MS Speech Recognition on the desktop.  What's happening is that the comms menu keeps flashing up all on its own, and also every time VA thinks it hears me say anything.

 

But it rarely recognizes anything, and when it does, it doesn't do anything...

What different commands have you tried?

If you try Inbound as a command what happens?

Try them without DCS running and see what the log file says

Another thought that occurs to me is how many keywords are in the VA profile (the pencil icon).

Have you pressed the Finish button on the Vaicom Config Editor tab to copy the keywords?

What you say about flashing menus makes me think that VAICOM isn't really connected to DCS. Does the module show up in the control panel when you're in the cockpit? CHECK THIS FIRST!!!

If yes, do what Horn says.
If no, we'll take it from there.

Also, do the MS Speech training at least trice!
For difficult words and expressions (names, airfields etc.) add them to the MS Speech dictionary with a voice recording.

Nope, nothing showing in the control panel when I'm in cockpit.  I've set the custom path and fixed registry, but still no joy.

 

 

I've tried to train the words for "Union" and "kneeboard" and "Lincoln" about two dozen times each, both in VAICOM and in MS Speech.  Every one has had many confidence results in the 90s consistently, then as soon as I quit the trainer, VA no longer recognizes them.  Oh, and I've done the "Finish" procedure each time to completion.

Very well. It's not the recognition, VAICOM is not connected to DCS, that's why you don't see the module in the control panel, and have the flashing menu.
Try this.
Close DCS, and VA. Repair DCS, open VA again and try a Lua repair from the VAICOM control panel. VA will restart, then start DCS.

Please could you turn on Vaicom debug (I think you already have this enabled looking at the screen shots), restart VA and then post your Vaicom log file here. The logfile can be found in <your Voiceattack install directory>/apps/Vaicompro/logs

Also, are you using any other DCS add-ons such as Tacview or SRS?

At least for the comms menu flashing, try deleting the Export.lua in your <User>\Saved Games\DCS\Scripts folder. It'll automatically get recreated when DCS starts up.

 

For the issue with Vaicom not recognizing anything, I'm at a loss. Looks like you've updated the keywords set? And it's showing "kneeboard" as recognized during training. Updating the keywords would've been my first guess (afaik, by default it won't include the kneeboard commands since that is an extension)... that must also mean that the Vaicom config window appears for you ok, since you have updated the keywords?

 

Stupid question, but did you confirm VoiceAttack \ Vaicom is set to use the mic you are expecting? In the VoiceAttack settings Audio tab? A couple of times I've had issues and it was from the system switching the mic on me to one several feet further away, where it'd still pick up my voice a bit, but not well.

 

The index out of bounds exception in the VA log you attached makes me wonder if a reinstall of VA + Vaicom might help. Are you installing / running it as administrator (through Windows, there's also a "Run as Admin" option in VA in System/Advanced tab)? Since it's picking up the 'TX5' type events though doesn't seem like this would be it.

 

Edit: Checking the troubleshooting section of the user manual, deleting the Export.lua, confirming the VA is running as administrator, disabling the NS430 module, and disabling any additional mods you might be running are the recommended actions.

Looking at the log file I think there is an issue with the path you have set for your OB install (I am guessing this is therefore the one you are running). You have set the path to point to F:\DCS World OpenBeta\bin - it should actually be pointing to the root folder for the install (F:\DCS World OpenBeta). Without DCS running, change this path in the Vaicom config (including fixing the registry) and then close down VA. Run a quick repair on your DCS OB installation (checking changed files only), rename the Export.lua in Z:\\DCS.openbeta\Scripts and then restart VA / Vaicom once the repair has completed. You should have a new Export.lua in the folder.

 

Before running DCS, try pushing / holding your PTT button and saying Inbound to check that it comes up as recognised in the log (see the attached for my log) - As @Monkwolfhas said, check that the correct microphone is being used as windows or software updates can sometimes change it around - every now and then mine changes from my headset mic to my VR headset mic....

 

If Inbound is recognised then start up DCS and load one of the instant action free flight missions for your plane (if not, then there are VA / Vaicom set-up issues we need to troubleshoot). As soon as you are in the cockpit open the Vaicom config screen and see if the airframe is now showing.

 

SRS and Tacview also place lines in the shared Export.lua and can be a bit picky about their lines either being first or last in the file. I don't run SRS but do have Tacview. My export.lua entries are as follows:

Rember to have VA turned off when you do the repair, and DCS off when you delete (make a backup), the export.lua, and start VA before DCS after.

I don't think you need to do that - what frequency is the CV tuned to? The log file shows no tuned units on the frequency you are using.

I am rusty in the F-18 but will hop into mine tomorrow for a launch and see what happens. Try using TX1 rather than TX5

TX5 Intercom is not connected to the carrier crew I suppose. Or does the Hornet even have one? Check in your VAICOM control panel where is shoes you the module, and it will show you what comms the aircraft has.

Per Hornblower's suggestion, use TX1 or TX2.

Arrgh!  Getting closer, but still can't get it to recognize "kneeboard" in VAICOM, no matter how many times I've done the VAICOM voice recognition / MS Speech Recognition.  It claims success all the way through the finish and the database update, but then "Unrecognized: 'kneeboard'...

Also, made sure I'm using the proper freqs, which I hadn't!

Salute finally worked, and it seems that I'm on the right Carrier freq, but she doesn't respond...

I tried it several times while the carrier was in a turn and I was in full AB, so I don't know if it recognized just the plain voice command, or the TX5 PTT, but I finally got launched after the carrier steadied up.

 

However, no joy on Mother...
