NEW: Universal VR shader

Can confirm this works great. For me it removes a "haze" (that I'll admit I feel I didn't notice until I toggled this on/off) long distance stuff, and in cockpit it sharpens up the text (F16, master arm text is pretty obvious) without felling like a "sharpen" filter has been applied that makes other things look funny.

Loving the slightly deeper contrast as well. Works great. Will 100% keep using this.

Not the app settings, but I will say I realize that I can regain a good amount of fps/GPU frametime using it.

Before I used SteamSS increase to gain cockpit readability at the cost of fps. Now, I'm able to dial SS back but still have a clear/very readable cockpit, AND use 2x MSAA.

I can't say enough how beneficial this mod is for VR users! Best way I can describe it is going from being outside on a bright sunny day with no shades on, then putting on my prescription/polarized sunglasses.

Hmm, not seeing that on my 3090, I'm afraid.  No difference in cockpit clarity, just improved external view colour and removal of a bit of a haze.  Slight performance hit as well, about 0.5ms frame time.

I don't understand how this works anyway as I thought it was a OpenVR mod.  Does DCS support OpenVR?

With a 3090 you might already have achieved max awesomeness 🙂

For a 1080 ti there's no mistaking the gain.

This mod is a keeper in my book.  Once it is toggled on and off and you see the difference, it will be hard to discard it.  Also seeing a very slight frame rate hit.

Its working with assetto corsa also. Just copied the files into my root assetto corsa folder. It seems when you bring up the reshade menu via the HOME key I get this grey console in my headset, but it goes away when you close the menu via HOME key. Haven't seen any problems, but haven't tried it for long.

Same result as with DCS. Not much difference close up, but better colors, less fog and things sharpen from close/mid range and out. This is usually the area that is difficult to resolve even with SS. I find the distance sharpness very pleasant. For me it makes a big difference. Kind of difficult to describe. Perhaps nuanced, but impactfull is a good description.

Very nice, great find

I have only tried this in Caucasus (AO online) so far. The visuals are far better/sharper and I did not notice any negative impact on performance.

Tweaking times ahead!

Wow, this is really nice, thank you @Sr.

Just took an early evening August flight out of Hatay in the Hornet. The mod just makes the already excellent Syria map POP!

Set up a Voice Attack command "end key" so I could easily flip on and off and it definately also improves detail definition at range. Don't think it touches fence shimmering but who cares !

The cockpit also seems somehow better, I think it just improves the contrast. The AMPCD colour map for example I usually struggle to get the contrast right for VR so I turn it off - much better with the mod.

I have it in OvGME and it's definately a keeper. Thanks again mate.

Seems to only affect monitor mirror on Quest 2. Expect ReShade doesn’t know which buffer to target.

Think I read where it only applies to SteamVR hardware (for now) as it was originally written for Index users.

I still am hesitant, that thing installs a bunch of files right into the DCS main directory. But I have always been kinda anal about keeping my install clean.

I suppose a DCS Repair would clean them all back out just fine. But to me DCS is gorgeous in my Reverb G2 and I figure if I never see it I won't know what I am missing lol.

Completely justified. But you can just move them back out manually or use a mod manager. They don't really "install" as such. Reshade presets are a bit "marmite" tbh, some people really like the colour boost etc and other not so much. But because they are profile based there is an ability to modify them to meet your own specific needs in terms of colour, sharpening and a ton of other filters. It's a bit of a rabbit hole. The one supplied in the archive is just a very vanilla and generic one, but certainly worth taking a look at.

So far I like sharpness intensity around 1.5 for my Index, and everything else at default values.  It doesn't seem to affect CPU frametime, but GPU frametime will increase by 0.5-0.6ms which is very little.

With this on, I can run my Index at SS 150% while getting sharper image than 220%, and this seems to help reduce CPU frametime by quite a bit meaning you won't get framedrop in CPU intensive missions.  In F/A-18 Syria Freeflight, my CPU frametime is always in the green zone in fpsVR which is great.  In F-16C Normandy freeflight which is typically a VR framerate killer (especially around those black smokes area), I get steady CPU and GPU frametime in yellow zones without drop.  Runways and ground objects also pop more and are easier to see.

Hello,

Good VR news !

Does anyone could confirm it works with a Rift and confirm the visual improuvments ?

I didn't find a clear answer about that in this thread ...

Thanks.

OK, now I am impressed.  I turned the sharpness to 1.2 and that allowed me to reduce my SS from 100% to 80% and still look better!

The difference in clarity on the ground is amazing, as well as the FLIR and MAV displays.

ED must implement something like this in DCS.

Sure this has been asked several times elsewhere... but is there a noticeable visual difference between Terrain Textures High/Low?

I personally can't "see" a difference visually or in performance.

And to be honest, I really no longer see much gain with MSAA (visually), but very nice fps bump (to be expected).

"dang it" you guys!  quit finding this stuff!! 😄    Naw, this is really cool.  I'm going to download, and then create a JSGME mod for it, (and put it into my DCS bin dir), and give it whirl later tonight.

I am not played with settings yet. But it is i can say now WOW about this mod. For me it is game picture changer. I am using MSAA off, SS 150%, PD 1.0,  shadow off, everything else high.

Seriously!

I never thought I'd get DCS to look THIS good.

I'm slowly bumping up SS to find just the right spot, but I'm very happy with 100%.  have also turned off MSAA and PD 1.0

By shaders off, do you mean you're not running one of the Kegetys shader mods?

For the moment, this is my preference. Terrain just POPS!
