Updating this OP to avoid confusion.

So far there are 2 variants of this mod, from the same dev: fholger

You can find him on on github and reddit.

https://github.com/fholger

https://www.reddit.com/user/fholger/

So far, the github version only one I've had time to mess with.

https://github.com/fholger/reshade/releases/tag/openvr_alpha2

FHolger responded back to me on Reddit with another version, but I have yet to try it.

I’ll have to check this out and see if it works with DCS.  Heard that it is a game changer with a lot of VR games yielding sharp images negating the need for supersampling.

I only had time to "test" it in Bigscreen VR.  Without much more effort than installing and adding the 2 files listed on github, I did see a big improvement with a couple of the 3D movies listed in Bigscreen. They went from sorta low quality, blurry and jerky to sharp, clear and smoother. Especially on items and people moving in other parts of the scene (not directly in the foreground. Before they were like watching a 4K movie on a 60hz monitor.

If you’re not sure what to do, just wait for the next release of Reshade which will fully support this.  The current method is a bit of a hack, though I might give it a go this weekend.

Do you know of a 'how to'? I'd be willing to try it on setup.

Interesting idea if I'm understanding it correctly.. Instead of using DCS's VR mode, playing in 2D, and using this reshade shader to project it into VR? Maybe it could look cleaner. One thing mentioned that turned me off from even wanting to try it is: "Since it's only a visual effect, there's no head-tracking, so nausea can occur".

That might just apply to how it's handling non-VR games though. Still not sure I'd expect much advantage to using this than just using the VR built into DCS. Take VR game, play it in 2D, to use a VR reprojection shader, to then play in VR?

Edit: Nevermind, was going off the main project page and hadn't looked at the other link(s) about it.

Another Edit: I think you may be confusing Reshade with the Universal VR Shader filter available for Reshade. That YouTube link comment page is talking about Reshade now being VR compatiable. That seems separate from the Universal VR Filter that looks to be a Reshade filter to convert non-VR games to VR.

I gave it a quick 20 minutes. Didn't see any noticeable difference... though I could see the screen lightly blink when pressing the key I had bound to "apply effect."

Update:

Holy cow!  So far only using the "Depth" effect, but damn what a difference.

Adds needed terrain color (just a touch), without it seems washed out. And best of all it improves the focus or sharpness I guess of distant terrain, edges of mountains etc.

Caucuses and even NTTC look very nice.

Just tried on my G1 it's like I have had my cataracts removed.

You must give this a go people even on default big difference for me on G1 and 1080ti and so much tweaking can be done.

Good analogy. For me, it's like putting my glasses on first thing in the morning 🙂

A good example is start the Instant Action/ Weapon Practice mission NTTC/A-10C II

Compare the blue/green/red smoke.
 😮

The external view of the hornet looked muddy before now sweet nice vibrancy and some depth to her.

After launching DCS and you're ready to try it out, you might find you have no mouse control. Simply press Home key again, it should toggle it back.

Just had a little play, because, I'm very tired, but there does seem to be a big visual improvement most noticeably for me with "shimmer", which has now completely gone .. i couldn't see any negative performance impacts .. very very cool

I installed it via a mod manager, so i will do some testing later tomorrow as i have a boat load of things to do, but this looks very good for improving the quality of image.

well done @Sr. and @freehand, excellent find!
