Tell me I am not Dreaming

Been away awhile and so disappointed over the time it took to complete Hornet. All I had ever wanted from ED was to do Longbow.  I was raised on Jane's Apache Longbow along with about every other Jane's sims of the day along with Falcon 3 & 4, various Novalogic sims, Microprose (F-15 Strike Eagle) and anything else that came along. But I had this dream that maybe, just maybe ED could put into detail and realism into a platform that had been my favorite for at least thirty years.  And that was the AH-65D Longbow. Now I can die because the last bucket list item has now been checked...The "Nap O' the Earth" stealth attack chopper is no longer a dream.  It's about to become reality.  Complete with Fire Bottles and Autorotational landings.  I'm in heaven.  :)

Welcome home mate.

We are going to experience a very very complex airframe, tight to the ground and in a true Peer to Peer combat arena.... something that has never been done in real life.

It is not what the military can offer us that matters.... but what we can offer the military. 🙂

I can not wait!

HP G2 Reverb, Windows 10 VR settings: IPD is 64.5mm, High image quality, G2 reset to 60Hz refresh rate as standard. OpenXR user, Open XR tool kit disabled. Open XR was a massive upgrade for me.

DCS: Pixel Density 1.0, Forced IPD at 55 (perceived world size), 0 X MSAA, 0 X SSAA. My real IPD is 64.5mm. Prescription VROptition lenses installed. VR Driver system: I9-9900KS 5Ghz CPU. XI Hero motherboard and RTX 3090 graphics card, 64 gigs Ram, No OC at the mo. MT user  (2 - 5 fps gain). DCS run at 60Hz.

Vaicom user. Thrustmaster warthog user. MFG pedals with damper upgrade.... and what an upgrade! Total controls Apache MPDs set to virtual Reality height with brail enhancements to ensure 100% button activation in VR.. Simshaker Jet Pro vibration seat.. Uses data from DCS not sound.... you know when you are dropping into VRS with this bad boy.

Doesn't look like we'll be getting FCR or RF Hellfires sadly.

The entire point of the D Apache is the radar, so of course it will have one at some point.

Hope so but definitely not initially going by the latest news as there is no mention of either.

They could very well do the D but may have to exclude some systems due to "sensitivity".

Edit: Just read Vigilate87's post, thats good news 🙂

ED knows what it is doing,

Radar will come but it will take time.

Off course in the radar less state, I would not mind a Gazelle escorting me... just for those tricky moments where popping up is suicide.

From what I think I know, that is not a true statement. The FCR is an option on the D model, but there are or were plenty of D's flying without the FCR.

Correct. It was designed as a supporting system to complement all the new fancy goodies that the D model brought to the table. You don't need every aircraft to have an FCR, that's why you see plenty without them. You would typically see an FCR or two per flight; they would scan the area and pass the target info to the other aircraft. I'm not sure how detailed ED is going to go in to 114L's but they can do some pretty neat stuff when coupled with the FCR.

Had so much fun with the FCR in LB2 - pop up behind a hill, scan targets, back down, hellfires away! Hope they don't take too long with the FCR.

The one with the FCR - if it went U/S on mission launch the D models without FCR were limited.

From my understanding, you weren't a Longbow unless you had the FCR.  Otherwise, you're just an Apache

YESSSSSS!  LB2 was the best.  I can remember making it home after a mission with no radar and had to fly NOE in pitch dark.  In those days, this Jane's sim was one of the first to allow multi-player and my CPG was going nuts thinking we were toast.  At the end of the mission we got the silver star or MOH, I forget.  But it was very immersive back in those days.

  • 2 weeks later...

If this info is so readily available, why did it take ED so long to get to it?  I mean when I first ordered Blackshark it was "Hey, why this attack chopper?"  Even then, everyone knew the Apache was state-of-the-art.  We were told that because of this there was too much Top Secret shit in this.  It could not be divulged in an accurate replica of the Apache.  Are we now supposed to believe that ALL this is now declassified?  Or maybe ED was feeding us a load of crap.
