B61 Nuclear bomb

Whilst the Hornet is Nuclear “capable”, I couldn’t imagine any MP servers welcoming people making the map glow every 5 minutes.

Honestly, it’s not needed.

There are plenty of weapon options to make your missions interesting.

Yes the MiG-21 has two flavours of instant sunshine, but - c’mon.

ED has said in the past that they're not touching nukes on any aircraft. Too many potential pitfalls; technical, political, and security, to make it worthwhile.

Plus nuclear weapons delivery is one of the most classified topics of any US combat aircraft. I'm not aware of a single publicly available document that details the process of arming and delivering a nuclear weapon in any aircraft, even ones that have been retired for decades. The cockpit switchology and symbiology would be pure guesswork.

The majority of freefall buckets of sunshine are no different in employment to regular GP bombs, yes - the arming and authorisation will never be simulated here - for obvious reasons, but generally, specials are the same as regular gravity weapons. Delivery profiles can be unique to which particular weapon is used though, and just how precise it needs to be.
Not too precise? Lob from several miles away in a climb, and keep pulling through after store away and egress the way you came in, slight diving to unload the aircraft, at full “lift your skirt and run” pace.

People wanting Nukes are probably the same ones who will complain about frame rate drop once the bomb hits and destroys a section of the map.

Besides is it not possible that trigger zones, smoke emitters, explosions can be set up to trigger a "simulated" Nuclear event. When Scud A lands in trigger zone then XYZ happens. If your plane is inside the zone then 100% Damage.

Sure there is not a huge mushroom cloud and a big flash.

Hey speaking of, can we get a model of the 9k720 Iskander, yes it has conventional warheads and is an alternative to the aging Scud missile system.

In the general method of employment, sure, but in the specifics? In the Hornet does a B61 use the same CCIP or Auto symbiology as any other GP bomb? Are there indications of blast radius and safe escape distance for the detonation? Anyone who knows the answer to this has access to classified information and isn't going to tell us.

Blast radius and minimum safe distance at various altitudes will already be known, it’s not necessary for the aircraft to provide that info. If it can toss-bomb, or do a lay-down delivery, then it’s already a ‘canned’ manoeuvre. General symbology, like aim point, pull up point, TTG etc are normal.

These specifics don’t contravene any classified information. The nature of the weapon, yield and fuzing would however.

This has already been a topic !

Don`t bring that foolish wish up again.

We will never have nukes in DCS and I think it`s absolutly right.

We have enough weapons to make a mess.

I can see the appeal of nuclear weapons, even if not for multiplayer, though they are an end-game weapon.

The issue I see with them is grinding PCs to a halt whenever one detonates in an area populated by lots of units.

In terms of classified stuff? I doubt that there's really anything that would have a practical effect. In any case however, I don't personally see nuclear weapons as a priority, their utility and mission potential is limited.

All you have to do to simulate a nuke is turn off your computer and go do something else. Same result unless you’re dying to troll people.  Silly idea.

I've answered on this topic before, but anyway, unless we get something more than just a big explosion, it wouldn't really interest me. Contrary to other bombs, this isn't a chemical reaction and it'd be much more interesting if we got some prompt (think photon and neutron bursts) and residual radiation effects that affected sensors, electronics and the pilot, even if the effects were largely simplified. It can be as simple as a certain radius around ground zero, where various systems start to fail or become useless, for a small period of time. It would also serve as an area denial weapon, like that.

Frag altitude for GP bombs is a known value too, and the aircraft displays that.

Otherwise your entire post is just guesswork. I, for one, would prefer ED stay away from topics where 100% of the implementation is just guesswork.

Okay, you have piqued my interest, which aircraft displays a frag altitude? We had to consult the weapons specialists if we didn’t know frag patterns, heights or suspension times to work out minimums and separation.
Aircraft do that now??

There are minimum release altitude staples displayed on the A-10, and I bet the F-16 and F-18 as well.  These take into account either level release, or release from a dive with a pre-determined escape maneuver.   This is supposed to keep you out of the frag volume.

All of this is irrelevant and unnecessary.   You can calculate all the relevant radii from public sources and by knowing the explosive equivalent of the weapon.  There are particular ways to deliver those weapons and they are also known - parachute, laydown, direct attack, ground, air burst,  penetration attacks (for underground bunkers) etc.

All of this stuff is interesting.

ah well maybe modders can do it. Its been done in other sims before.

yeah that what kinda kills the fun of the MIg21bis nukes. the lack of  actual nuclear bomb effects, and thus the novelty wears off fast.
