Should not be a problem, i run 6 disks, 5 SSD's and 1 HD (and an optical one). Doesn't stutter. DCS (2 installs, stable and beta) sit on their own disk, both on the same one.

@Fakum bahahah. oops. so i ran across something of interest for my noted issues. i found that one of my issues was causing windows file explorer to freeze for a second and then refresh, making the top sorted files go to the top. i did some digging and found that some people had this issue and the fix was to turn off the Windows slide show. it also seemed to affect chrome. since i stopped my slideshow, i no longer have the stutter issue. i know odd but maybe worth a shot to at least try.

Got it thanks! Already set to 'Picture'.

Also playing around with various settings, and unless I have both MSAA and SSAA selected (in game - 2x and 2x respectively) I get 'shimmer' - predominantly on buildings. If I turn either one off it is noticeable - and even if I reduce SSAA to 1.5x it starts to creep in.

Current NVCP settings are all on default except the Power Management mode.

  • 2 weeks later...

Also found another reference to the slideshow in the power settings - not sure if it would make any difference but now set to 'Paused':

I don't think this would make any difference. Just checked mine, i have this on "available" on the high power setting (on which i turned everything either on or off to get the most out of it).

I havnt tinkered with much in the past couple weeks. I still have NCP set to default to run DCS except for the setting of Max performance and VSYNC set to FAST (although according to an article I posted above about stating I shouldnt be setting VSync at all with my gear, yet I had seen an improvement that pretty much got rid of the Tearing). I have been flying helocopters and I pretty much have seen no jitters or stuttering, and frame rates are well into 60's to 90+.

Question, so when you setup Nvidia Control Panel for DCS, which DCS Program file should you be targeting? The Shortcut you use to initiate DCS uses DCS_Updater.exe to start DCS

image.png

NCP Tries to target DCS.exe? Which file shout you use in NCP to setup specific configuration for DCS?

Excellent, thanks. That is what I had it setup for. Now another question. I have noticed a distinct line as I fly other things as I pan around outside. The best way I can describe it is a transition line of some sort, where you can clearly see a change in the ground detail between the south side of the line, compared to the north side of it. Its very annoying. I did my best to capture it here and have circled an example. Inside of the narrow red area I have captured, you can see a distinct difference from the 6 o'clock area compared to the 12 o'clock area. You can REALLY see the difference with the tree shadow where the 6 o'clock portion is very pronounced and solid shadow, and the 12 o'clock portion is fadded and wider. What is this? This line moves right along outside in front of me, like a snow plow.

i started seeing this when the update 2.7 came out. i surmise it is something to do with object detail. when i was flying a night mission last night, zooming in on ground lights would sort of warp the view as i was zooming. i have a paddle on throttle so i can zoom in and out quite quickly. i would suggest starting another video bug topic. this thread is way too long to have any worthy attention AND this video issue is picking at a loose thread. pretty minimal artefact. i see it when in another one of the popular flight sims.

This was actually occurring prior to 2.7 update. I just happened to take the time to try and capture it after the update.

That line transfers the flat shadows to the detailed ones. You can get rid of it by setting ground shadows to flat.

Personally I find that more appealing than this flickering mess...

Oh sorry - terrain Object shadows is what I was referring to.

For my taste this gives better looks than "default".

The other Shadows setting should stay in the highest setting if you can afford it. It effects the shadows in the cockpit, which is very important in my opinion.
