Marianas map as optional install (both standalone and steam version)

Hello devs,

If possible make this map as an optional dlc in the module manager / steam dlc manager.

The reason for the request is hard disk space management. This way it would be possible to choose to have or not the map installed.

Regards

Not all. Caucasus, Su-25T and TF-51D come with DCS World by default. Now, we don't know if Marianas map will be implemented as a module, or if it will become part of baseline DCS World, like all other free content.

I do hope it's a module, because my SSD is only 500GB, and I've got two other sims on it, too. 🙂

While I don't have a space problem, and the Marianas might be a smaller map in size compared to say, Syria. I hope it is an optional download for those who don't have large amounts of storage space available.

Well, considerin how much less there is a landmass, it should be much smaller in size.

i7-8700k, 32GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 2x 2080S SLI 8GB, Oculus Rift S.

i7-8700k, 16GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 1080Ti 11GB, 27" 4K, 65" HDR 4K.

Only thing I will say is bathymetry and the increased detail, which might increase the size somewhat. But yes, the entirety of the Marianas has less area than Qeshm island - in theory it should be pretty small compared to our other maps.

The most demand is the amount of terrain textures and how many individual buildings there are, as all trees and such same objects are just repeating data for map to know what to place where and how. It would be nice to have a small size map as it would dramatically make DCS World more SSD friendly for many who want to try it.

I agree. I don't have space issues myself, but I hope for others that do, that ED sometime in the future will make even the free modules removable, and include tools that can easily move things around to other disks for the not so computer savvy. Even though mklink is easy enough.
Cheers!
