John C. Meyer with his P-51D outclimbed two Bf 109

I found this interesting - see the second half of the report - the last paragraph.

He pulled 67" for 30s and as soon as the engine got detonations he reduced power to 55" - he climed 1000 ft/min.

Bf 109s were not able to catch him.

True, he was low on fuel so his ship was very light, but anyway, DB 605 should have better climbing ability comparing to Merlin... Or should not?

Everything is fine, but one thing is missing, what power settings Germans have flown ?

Well, one would guess they tried to use max power available to catch the Pony... But may be they did not 🙂

Exactly, we will never know for sure. Unless someone dig out german after action report from same day, describing same situation. 

Second thing what type bf109 was it. It could be g-2. G-2 vs K-4 it is miles away in terms of preformance

Too many variables, the pilots may of been untrained and no experience on German side.  Pilot logs will be all over the spectrum countering tech sheets....
