Cyclic/Collective controls?

Hey all,

Does anyone have a good breakdown of the RL controls?

Like a picture of the HOTAS components with a legend for what they all do. This would also need to include the TEDAC controls.

I took a long break from modeling but now I'm back at it. Working on the trigger assemblies now, shouldn't be long before I can print out some prototypes.

Hi Guys,

I am modelling the collective and cyclic also. Does anyone have the dimensions of the cyclic and possibly some drawings from the front and side? I used the drawings and dimensions I had for the collective and it certainly makes the modelling a lot easier.

Nice developement there... At the End, I hope there will be a buyable soloution somewehn. Okay, maybe it needs 2 USB Plugs because it is made of 2 "joytick controllers" in one unit...

Nah, not necessary. Windows RawInput/DirectInput API allows for up to 128 digital bindings and 8 analogue axes per HID.

Even with a crazy collective like the Apache's I doubt you'd exceed that 😉

My Cyclic so far. Only the body itself without any buttons, coolies and the trigger (this is only a frame arround it) at the moment and also still not finished.

Near finish! I will do some minor changes tomorrow and then the shape of my AH-64D/E cyclic is finished. There is still a lot of work to do, like doing the holes for the buttons and coolies and splitting the grip into screwable pieces.

Yes, I know. I will implement this later, after the shape is finished. The whole trigger section isn't finished yet. The "trigger" in my shape is only a frame in which the real trigger will be placed and also the protection cover should be mounted over.

I have to rework this again, cause during the corrections of the shape of the grip in meshmixer, the trigger-frame I made at first was displaced again and also the shape of this frame has been deformed. I know that the real cyclic has no frame arround the trigger, but that's a compromise I made to get the trigger and the cover easier mounted.

The shape is ready now! Next work is to do all the holes for the trigger, buttons and coolies, setting the screwings and make this thing hollow.

Hi Lain,

looks very awesome 👍👍.

I'm near finish with the shape of the collective now. Some minor things have still to be adjusted and it's only the shape of the grip at the moment, without holes for buttons and coolies.

Oh, okay. That is new for me. I always thought that one DX device just can direct adress 32 buttons and 8 axis. That there is more possible with software, that can be... but I nver use software for sticks

Nah, you don't need any extra software.

Well only if you're playing Elite Dangerous written by idiot Frontier Development programmers who are still using a version of DirectInput that was out of date 10 years ago! 😄

Windows generally has had 128 digital bindings on any HID via DirectInput/RawInput for over almost two decades. 😉  It's up to the game d2eveloper to use the right version of the APIs but it's not a problem.  You may be being mislead by joy.cpl control panel tool which only has a UI capable of displaying 32 inputs but that's just MS being lazy about updating the displays in their control panel tools.

DCS can handle 128 inputs from any joystick or throttle or any other HID no problem.

Hell, even Star Citizen allows 100 inpouts per HID (and no, I don't know why Star Citizen's developers stopped at 100, I can't imagine handling another 28 inputs would put that much demand on resources but hey, it took long enough to get them to raise the limit from 50 to 100! 😄 )

I'm almost done with mine! I'm not the best 3d modeler by far (just taught myself in the last 2 years) but it's looking decent. It's not a replica by any means but the functionality and form factor are pretty close I think. I wanted to make a model other people could print out themselves easily and had hot-swappable parts so I didn't bother with button covers for the chop and jettison as well as other things.

By the way, the hats are not my design. I'm using hats from creators JumpNshootman and huzarski on thingiverse. I just designed this so it fits those since they are the best option for hats I've found and actual hat switches are expensive as hell. When it's done I'll share the model with anyone wanting to print it but I won't include the hats themselves in my design.

I hope everyone else making one of these is making good progress. Can't wait for the AH64!

I'm still in the building process. It's a lot of work cause I make all my controls interchangeable. The AH-64D collective is mostly done, but I'm still having to complete the cyclic. I want to do this after I have finished the collective system with all the changeable grips.

Some of my results are posted in this thread here. Sorry for the missing pictures, but I have cleaned some things in my account and accidentally deleted too much of my pics.

Most of my parts are made especially for my pit and its interchangeable system, so it wouldn't be really useable for most other simmers, but if I can help with your own projects, I will do so of course.

just wondering if you have any stl files to share. @Viper1970

i was in the middle of starting to design a collective, but now i am inspired to build the mi24 aiming station.

build the the stl files take 70 percent of the time.. if someone here is willing to share, it just saves me time not having to re invent the wheel.

AGREED IT IS ALOT OF WORK.

anyways this is my progress... i am like at 5 percent.

This stuff looks awesome!

Does anyone know if someone like Winwing offers documentation on how to integrate with their platforms? Something like their "Gemini" base could be great to serve as the base for custom collectives that could be 3D printed and assembled, then mounted to their base platform.

I would definitely be interested in checking out something like that, since the odds of someone making a modestly priced commercially available AH-64 setup seems...slim.
