New rig - transferring modules

Recommended Posts

I'm about to purchase a new rig which will be dedicated to DCS.

It will have a new Windows OS on one M.2 NVMe and I'm planning to install DCS on its own NVMe, it will be a complete rebuild.

How do I go about trasnferring all of my purchased modules/licences ?

Is it just a case of disabling/uninstalling them from my current rig first, then signing into my account in my new rig and downloading/installing again ?

All my purchases are for the standalone version.

Presumably I can also copy my Save Games\DCS folder across ? and I understand I may have to restore my controller settings from backups.

Yes. Just install DCS on the new computer and log into your DCS account. Just remember to close DCS on the old one.
Copy saved games over, easy as that.
Controls little more cumbersome. Copy over the input folder, and rename the files with the new ID. A little work, but worth the effort.
Cheers!

ah, right, so allow DCS to create an input folder/aircraft sub folders then replace the controller files it creates with my copies, using the new names, makes sence.

All good news, many thanks.

So if you just switch to a new mobo/cpu, you still have to uninstall DCS, and re-download from scratch? You can’t simply log off before doing the swap, then re-login after?

Why re-download? ... just logoff, do the swap and logon after. However, you may need to check the Config/Input hotas files, as your USB IDs will change with the new motherboard.

If you are making hardware changes it is best to logout, then make your upgrades. Also ensure you are not in off line mode.

Restart DCS login and you will be good to go.

if you are on a new pc and dont intend to use the old one, it is best to logout of the old one, then login on the new one and continue.

any problems contact support directly and we will assist you

thanks

So the activation guide ("DCS World Activation Guide EN.pdf") which is still in the "Doc" folder is totally obsolete?

My PC does not pass the test for the upcoming Windows 11 and I will have to at least replace the motherboard, but will keep my disks. So I was beginning to wonder about de-activating and re-activating my 36 or so licenses. It seems from the above posts that I don't need to worry about activation. Correct?

It might be a good idea for ED to replace the obsolete Activation Guide document with a succinct document telling the user what to do in this scenario (PC upgrade) or a totally new PC.

You can install DCS on as many computers you want to. But you can only be logged in to one DCS session at the time. A friend can log into your computer with his own DCS account, but only his modules will be accessible, even if you have other modules installed the ha hasn't purchased.
