Furiz
Is there any way to update DL info on the HSD page during a mission? for example when you take out SA2
Bunny Clark
Nope, those are baked into the system during the planning stage of the mission in real life. They're actually stored as a form of waypoint and not tied into the EW system at all. 1 Oil In The Water Hornet Campaign. Furiz
Aha all right, understandable, but how do they do it in real life then? like when AWACS picks up a radar, can it mark it and share the mark point?
Florence201
In rl, they will pass datalink tracks for points, or EW fixes ref BE [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

In real life, at least for the version of software we have in our DCS jet, it isn't possible to add new threat rings to the HSD display midflight. They're all created by the intel folks and pilots during mission planning based on known threats that are relevant to the flight, and are uploaded along with the flight plan on the aircraft data card. Surveillance systems and other aircraft can send air contacts over datalink, but I do not believe there is a system to send ground threats over datalink. Oil In The Water Hornet Campaign. No, the F-16 does have the ability to send and receive SEAD THREATs over DL. The documentation is sparse but the sending of SEAD threats is probably tied into the HTS system (So USAF Block 50's and later) but all F-16C /MLU types can receive them. There are unique HSD SEAD symbols / DED pages and HOTAS functions available. Note this is independent of the threat waypoints created in pre-planning / DTC. For us in DCS, we don't know yet. I was only thinking of pre-briefed threat circles on the HSD, but yes, there is datalink interaction on the HAD page. Oil In The Water Hornet Campaign. Sinclair_76
It would really be cool if you could log targets/markpoints (?) on the DTC and plot gathered intel for future missions automatically.
Solution Furiz Posted September 6, 2021 Author Solution Share Posted September 6, 2021 Well if you take into consideration that we are in a game, where in MP dynamic missions for example SAM sites just spawn out of the blue sky, we really need some way to add them into our Situational Awareness pages during flight. SAM sites wont just spawn in real life like they do in our Simulation, they do change position, those that can, so I don't think the designers of the real aircraft overlooked something like this. Frederf
You can't change the pre planned threat rings mid flight but there is a datalink SEAD object which is dynamic. They are two different object types. F-16 in DCS has two separate datalink network abilities: Link 11 TADIL A and Link 16 TADIL J. The first runs over IDM and predates the later Link 16 running over LVT MIDS. A full simulation of either datalink system would have the ability to send and receive DL SEAD messages on the fly. 3
Florence201
IDM is not TADIL associated. It was an early 9L type CAS and EW data transmission. Link 11 was originally HF for Naval vessels but then terminals were put on larger aircraft [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
