RIFT S connection problems

Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone has trouble connecting their RIFT S to windows. It takes me 3/4 attempts of trying different USB slots and restarting the machine for it to work. I am update on all relevant drivers etc.... it’s really frustrating !

Have you tried a powered USB 3 Hub?

Or maybe the C-Port in your 2080 Ti?

I've dealt with this since the beginning of having my Rift-S.

Swapping USB's, switching drivers, getting a powered hub, added a PCI-E USB card (tried actually two different brands), none of them didn't work 100%. It was always a lucky shot.

Then i found that stopping and restarting the Oculus service (quickest way is through the OTT, it has that option in the Service & Startup section) did the same thing i stopped the USB hassle and just stopped and started the service (sometimes more then once) to make it recognize my Rift-S.

Solution for me: setting the BIOS option: PCI-E slot 2 (where the PCI-E USB card sits on which the headset is connected) to GEN 3 instead of AUTO. Since then, it always connects without a problem.

Thanks for your reply guys, I have connected with a USB 3 Hub and it connected straight away. So fingers crossed that has solved the problem. I am currently waiting for the reverb G2 here in the U.K. Cant buy it anywhere at the moment

I just went to play DCS and even with the powered USB hub it still not working. In the oculus ap it says it’s all connected and the lights are green but when I put the head set on it’s just black? Any ideas how sort this annoying problem. Thank you 😊

What's the color of the light inside the headset, white or orange?

If orange, all stays black, if white should be OK (but not always, sometimes it F's U..., then stop the service and start it again. You can use the OTT for this.

Some times it’s orange sometimes it’s white. I have just downloaded OTT. So I will see how I get on. Thank you for your help

Hi,

I tried OTT and that hasn’t solved the problem either. I tried to stop the service and start it again 3 times with still no luck. It’s so annoying

I had similar problems until I figured out that the order you plug in the headset is also important. First plug in the Display Port cable, then plug in the USB (Has to be USB3 port). Then start the Oculus Rift Software (it should automatically start up if it's configured correctly) and then the OTT tool.

Never had this problem again with my Oculus Rift CV1 / Rift-S since I switched to a Inateck 3.0 USB PCI-e Card (Fresco USB Logic chip) .

Back in the day, this USB-Chip was recommended by Oculus.

Similiar to this.

Gets power over a SATA Power Connector.

Just a thought but if using OTT have you tried the option under "Services and Startup" to "Set OVR server priority to "Above Normal"? I also had some issues even with an external PCIe USB hub, but since setting this option (and admittedly trying every USB port in my MB) things seem to have stabilised in regards to connection drop outs etc.
