What I'm saying is that makes no difference. It is always set to 'none' by default.  But, as it says in the file, don't edit that since the settings moved to the SteamVR UI.  (I know there is the other line, but I feel that is an artifact of the previous way of doing things.

Mine is always at default in that file, i.e. 'none', but MR is perfectly controlled by the setting in SteamVR UI. See attached.

I understand, and I'm agreeing with you that the file setting makes no difference to the function. I however, was not aware of that. And read the "use the UI" comment as "use the UI to set the value in the file don't edit it directly"  whereas the truth is the value of the configuration line in the file serves no purpose anymore.

But that's different to zildac and me. It shouldn't work that way.

No, see my attachment above. That is my default.  It is set to 'none' by default, but that has no effect on the setting in SteamVR UI, and it says in the file not to edit it since the settings have moved.  As zildac and I said above, no matter what the file is set to, it makes no difference to how the settings work in SteamVR for mr.

I use CTRL-F11 to start logging after I click fly, then again immediately after the track ends.

I then open the log in Excel, remove the all the " marks with a replace command, then I delete usually the first 2 or 3 rows, which tend to show GPU framerate = 0, then at the bottom, I remove all the rows which occured between the track ending and me pressing CTRL -F11 - It's pretty obvious which ones they are as the pattern changes totally.

Then I use the "=Average" function on column D, then copy it to C and B

I get extremely consistant results this way.

I also leave my G2 hanging on it's stand before I even start WMR and do everything with desktop commands to ensure I get a consistant headset view throughout the tests.

My sequence is:

Switch on G2 - WMR auto-launches

Launch FPSVR from start menu - SteamVR auto-launches

Launch DCS from start menu

Click ALT-Enter to go Fullscreen DCS

Start the track file and click CTRL-F11

Track file ends - Click CTRL-F11

Thank you very much Shaun, much appreciate the advice you've given.

It's the way it's always been. I'm sure we've discussed that many times about a year ago.  We shouldn't have to touch that file at all any more.

It's confusing as heck, but if the comments are to be believed then the setting *should* make no odds (with newer builds I guess). Perhaps it was left in for some kind of regression testing and just never cleaned up?

I did play before I actually realised I'd missed my usual edit of that file and all seemed well, so as @imacken has stated it does indeed seem to be redundant and solely relies on the "per app" setting in the UI now. Which as you say @speed-of-heat is one less thing to worry about tweaking, and I'm all for that given the raindances that we currently have to do to get the sim working well in VR 🙂. Slightly off topic but as I mentioned in a another post I would really like to see a VR focused patch that cleaned up some of the longer standing niggly bugs (X-Eye, general perf,  seizure inducing flashing in WMR headsets during loading etc) , given the US Army are using the A10 module in VR for some of their training syllabus I'm sure they'd appreciate it too, but I digress 🤐

you can use them both, they do different things... The sharper eye reshade makes everything much sharper, but costs you more shimmer (In my experience) Kegetys shaders improves performance at some graphics quality loss, or IC incompatibility, hence my two additional variants

and thanks for the positive comments!

Hi - bit confused as I read so where that 50% custom resolution in SteamVR is native (full) resolution of the G2? I’ve been running at 100% in SteamVR and 1.0 in DCS. Have I been unnecessarily overdoing it on the pixels - and hence performance hit?

@C3PO the physical native resolution is of the G2 is 2160 x 2160 panel resolution per eye however to account for barrel distortion there is upscaling done inside steam VR resulting in it reporting 3168 x 3096 as 100%.  My assumptions for performance are based on reducing the resolution to 80% of that number (2836 x 2768) in the SteamVR UI, if you set steam VR to about 50% you will get very close to the physical resolution.  I assume there would be a proportional improvement in frametime and corresponding reduction in visual acuity as a result of any further reduction, how much this bothers you is an individual choice, some will see my 80% of base as being unacceptable in terms of visuals... YMMV

So, if you set the G2 SS to 50-ish % and compare the picture quality to 100% SS with a G1, will the image quality be identical?   Which also leads me to ask, will the FPS & frame time be identical?

i honestly cant remember with clarity what the g1 image was like but i would imagine that it is similar.

identical to what ?

Will the FPS& frame time be the same with a G2 at 50% SS compared to a G1 at 100%, if you use the same PC?

Reason for asking is, I'm trying to decide whether to go for the 6900XT. I have some performance number from someone who has a similar PC spec as mine but with a 6900XT and a G2. I have a 2080Super and a G1.

I recently used my G1 again as my G2 cable had died. Dialing up the G1 (200% steam, 100% DCS) to the resolution I normally run my G2 at (100% steam 80% DCS) resulted in about the same overall image quality.

I think the 6900XT is a good choice for DCS if you can get your hands on one.

Cool, thanks for that and performance was about the same? ie, same sort of FPS & frame times?
