Well, aiming a gun with track IR certainly doesn't feel great. I dunno if VR is better

It works very well with other games in VR. I think TrackIR doesn't work well because the more you turn your head the harder it is to see where you are aiming. So bet this will be a lot of fun in VR 🙂

Jane's Longbow was my first PC game ever and my first sim, too. That was on christmas 1996, IIRC. I loved this game and the tactics you could did with the radar and the Hellfires (pop-up tactics) and got into sims for many years (other Jane's titles, submarine sims, M1A2 Main Battle Tank sim and so on). Then, 2004, came Battlefield 2 with no sim-level but a multi-crew Cobra and I was stuck on the teamplay in one helo, flying very low and pop-up behind trees, houses and hills and that all with nice graphics. That was awesome, too.

Now, both features will come to DCS. The revival of my first simulated helo-experience, that tactics and the later teamwork and graphics. As I saw the cannon and the radar in the video, I was flashed and hyped, like some many years ago with the DCS Tomcat hints. This is so fu**ing cool, just awesome. This helo after all these years.

Not that it matters, but I never coined the phrase I was using it in response to others that were using it.

Your boss asked, I'm simply showing him where the community picked up that impression.  In addition, I looked through the referred thread and could not find what community member coined the term to which you were referring when discussing the upcoming new module announcement.  Can you kindly point to that thread/post?  Thanks.

Can I coin a new phrase?  We can use the acronym PQT (petty, querulous, toxic)

Here's a breakdown from the Oxford Dictionary if you need 'sources':

Petty: of little importance; trivial. (of behavior) Characterized by an undue concern for trivial matters, especially in a small-minded or spiteful way.
Querulous: Complaining in a petulant or whining manner.
Toxic: Very bad, unpleasant, or harmful. "a toxic relationship"

Ever wonder why there's so much PQT here?  I think it's because people ran off all the MSMAEs (mentally stable and mature aviation enthusiasts) with attacks on them and the ED staff.  I heard Reddit is looking for people who like to bully and argue... and there are much more interesting targets in those 'teen subreddits' where the topic isn't restricted to mature, intelligent subjects such as Aerospace and breakthrough software development that elevated the flight sim genre.  Sounds fun, right?

It's a good thing that this is Early Access and we've all volunteered to help test and enhance this work in progress... despite the frustrations inherent in the task with even the simplest of software... otherwise people might not understand that this incredibly complex unfinished module is unfinished. /light-hearted sarcasm

All I can say is YESSSSSSS.

Not sure how long it will take  before it's finally released but it will be a waiting game for sure.

I for one cannot wait, many like myself  have posted on this thread that you cut your teeth on Longbow2 (1997)and got the Chopper bug.

Longbow2 was good for it's time including the graphics. In today's standards it wouldn't come close visually but here's the crunch....the game play, campaign and even "Bitching Mary"  has yet to be matched by anybody.

You actually felt part of the war effort this is how immersive the game was. One minute you were playing pool then all hell breaks loose and you have to head out to theater.

You could be Sam hunting, Lasering a target, dropping troops off , picking troops up  or flying escorts all for the war effort and I for one miss this "game".

So let's see what ED can bring to the table. It's never going to be like Jane's that's for sure but let's see what magic ED can do to bring this Bird into a modern era.

And for ol time sake ........

As far as I've read, the Apache was never meant to carry Sidearms. The Cobra was, however.

What´s really interesting, is that they are making the D-version. I would expect the Longbow radar to be quite classified still with regards to acquisition modes, ranges, efficiency and scan patterns. I am also surprised that they have sufficient info with regards to the glass cockpit and the different electronics. AH-64 has generally been kept on the secrecy-level of F-22/35 all those years. It´s going to be interesting to see how this helicopter performs against my russian babies :gun_smilie:

After release.... I do wonder if a WAH-64 would be possible..... at cost of course!

HP G2 Reverb, Windows 10 VR settings: IPD is 64.5mm, High image quality, G2 reset to 60Hz refresh rate as standard. OpenXR user, Open XR tool kit disabled. Open XR was a massive upgrade for me.

DCS: Pixel Density 1.0, Forced IPD at 55 (perceived world size), 0 X MSAA, 0 X SSAA. My real IPD is 64.5mm. Prescription VROptition lenses installed. VR Driver system: I9-9900KS 5Ghz CPU. XI Hero motherboard and RTX 3090 graphics card, 64 gigs Ram, No OC at the mo. MT user  (2 - 5 fps gain). DCS run at 60Hz.

Vaicom user. Thrustmaster warthog user. MFG pedals with damper upgrade.... and what an upgrade! Total controls Apache MPDs set to virtual Reality height with brail enhancements to ensure 100% button activation in VR.. Simshaker Jet Pro vibration seat.. Uses data from DCS not sound.... you know when you are dropping into VRS with this bad boy.

I hope they get VR performance to a non pull out hair experience before this goes EA.  If so, i'll be there with the $$

I wanted to fly these IRL, it was my dream, but they don't like diabetics in the armed forces soooo this is all I gots.....don't let me down DCS.

DCS won't let us down.

I hope the Pits not too clean and I wonder what the weird Pilot Night Vision System will be like with only one eye.

I bet it will be weird in VR!

Cockpit lights on for the left eye so all instruments can be perfectly focused on and read, right eye immersed in night vision coming from the PNVS some 2 meters in front of you..... spooky wierd.

It had better look like super cooled heavy weight night vision optics!!!

Gun tracking in VR is just natural, you turn your head, align the cross hair and pull the trigger, if compensation is required your head tracks in true 1:1 scale which makes it easy to walk the fire just a few meters.... very natural.

In Track IR you have to mentally compute how the compensation curves (that allow you to look at your 6 whilst keeping your eyes on the monitor in front of you) relates to where your target is and then stiffen your neck to control head movement to the target that sits just on the point where the software curve  increases view movement in relation to head movement........ offffff....... very complicated in comparison.
