Speaking of the A campaign. I hope you consider using VF-11 or VF-31 birds off the Forrestal since those squads actually operated from that ship. 😄

It won't be off the Forrestal.

Oh really. Will the current B one be changed to that one then? Sure I read something along those lines.

Spoiler

Reforger part 2 - hence the sluggers and bedevillers have been chosen for the entire reforger storyline in the first place. The ship in the campaign will likely be called Saratoga though, if available as module yet or not.

Mission 5 complete!

I had to disable tacview to keep a decent framerate (there are so many planes at the same time!) but that was no big deal.

Thanks for the tip. I was about to give up on this campaign because fps in VR are unbearable in this mission. Hopefully disabling tacview will help.

edit: Even without Tacview this mission is still unplayable. When all hell breaks loose around 9:15 fps drop well below 45. This game is not designed for epic battles unfortunately.

Just finished Mission 9 of operation reforger, excellent campaign indeed. And the cliffhanger ending! So when will the sequel be out?  really want to know what happens next with the story...

So I have 2 cliffhangers from 2 excellent campaigns lol first the cliffhanger ending of another excellent campaign, Rising Squall's ending, now this, dang, lol

1.  I'm very  much enjoying the campaign.  The missions are engaging, and the use of AI and scripted comms is good.

2. Having all units you need to interact with 1 radio channel, while "easy," isn't realistic, and potentially creates a situation where you don't know which carrier or tanker responded to you when using Vaicom Pro.  I don't think I've had any problems yet, but I'm only a few missions in.

3. Carriers (CVNs and LHAs), are too close to each other.  For CASE I, you really want a minimum of 6 nautical miles separation between carriers in order to keep stack patterns safely separated.  I don't know what the official rule is.  This is just the rule I use.  There doesn't seem to be a good reason to pack them in so closely together.

Thank you for the feedback!

As for the carriers - it is for eyecandy reasons, nothing more, nothing less. The player only uses one, and the AI doesnt really care. IRL all of these ships would be up to several tens of miles spread out, as needed by the situation, and you might only see the carrier at times. While more realistic, it is also a bit more boring than being able to look at a larger naval formation. And in the end, they wouldnt even enter the black sea and just operate out of the Mediterranean, etc.. Hence i created them from the get go to concentrate nice views for the player to enjoy 🙂 Hope that makes sense.

I think some artistic freedom and more "hollywood like" stuff is perfectly fine for a DCS campaign. In the zone 5 capmaign you wouldn't be shooting actual bullets and see the guy go down in flames. It's there to make it look cool and be exciting.

Understood, and I'm only offering an opinion.

To each their own. I prefer more realistic scenarios and setup whenever possible.

Live ammo in NTTR campaigns is just game limitation and it's not cool at all - it's impression breaking.

Thanks very much for the campaign. Campaigns like this are exactly why I spend time in DCS vs other sims. Can I make two suggestions for the next campaign?

  • Can you make the briefings available outside of DCS? I like to read them and prepare before jumping into VR.
  • I do like cold starts over hot/air starts.

Modules: Wright Flyer, Spruce Goose, Voyager 1

Thank you for the feedback, and happy that you like it! The PG campaign will be cold starts only. 🙂 (read: mostly)

Just finished the campaign! It was great! I had a lot of fun.

SPOILER I had to try the 7th mission several times because I got shot down by the sneaky mig, which was a nice touch.  Except that... I couldn’t resist looking in tacview where it came from and when, to be ready the next time.  If there was a way to add some randomness, for instance two or three different possible times and locations from which the sneaky mig could pop up, that would make it even better IMHO because I could not cheat with tacview then.  But I don’t know if that’s possible in the mission editor.

Oh I also experienced the ‘bug’ in that mission where Jester says that you locked a buddy when you lock on the Hind, but that’s no big deal, Jester doesn’t have to be right all the time.  I cheat by using dot labels anyway (otherwise I’d never see anything coming in my Rift CV1).

I was a bit puzzled that the last mission starts in the air but OK...

I prefer hot starts from the deck (but cold starts are OK too, then I use auto-start and time acceleration).

Thanks again for this free add-on to the Tomcat module, great work!

Thank you for the great feedback, Pyker, the idea for the MiG is great. I will try and implement it.

Mission 5 looks be be broken after the update. I link up with the rest of the F14's and fly over to waypoint 2 and 3 and nothing will trigger from there.

Mission 3 or 4(Can't remember which one. Whichever one where it is storming and you fly out to identify a rotary aircraft) is awesome with the new clouds!

Same here. I flew a CAP between 2 and 3 for about an hour or more, and nothing triggered.

Thank you! Are you guys using the included campaign, or still the original upload? Mission 5 was broken in the original upload.

I am using the included campaign, SuperCarrier version. The MIZ file from said mission, is dated 4/14/2021 in my Operation Reforger folder. I will fly the mission again, to see if I get the same results. I will report back.

could you try the non supercarrier version please? you can simply load it manually from the campaign folder - that would help a lot.

thank you all!
