Oscar Juliet
Back in 2016 I started a thread to help teach other pilots the basics of the A10c. I had put it off for a long time and thought it was impossible to learn such an aircraft. I thought my flight equipment wasn’t good enough and I thought I couldn’t possibly learn it on my own. I dedicated two weeks to training missions and A10c online videos. I learned the aircraft and started to teach others. I was a member of the 107th with the Through the Inferno servers. I led the A10c flight, Pandion, for almost a year. I ended up getting burnt out from DCS. I came back to fly the A10c II and I’m not disappointed. I enjoy it very much and picked it all back up quickly. The A10c II is one of my favorite aircraft and I want to help make it one of your favorite. GETTING STARTED: IL2 Cliffs of Dover was where I learned how to fly in a sim environment. I quickly ended up on DCS with the F15c. I destroyed myself many times while trying to master basic flight. I want to teach you how to destroy things with the A10c and be an effective pilot. All I ask is that you have some experience flying sim aircraft so we can focus on the harder stuff. If you can fly, but are new to the A10c or combat aircraft in general, start with Chucks Guide. This will familiarize you with the A10c. Try to bind your keys to match the real A10c HOTAS as much as possible. That way if you buy new equipment, you can change out the key binds and still keep most of your muscle memory. Make sure you memorize your key binds. The major ones are TMS, DMS, CMS, Coolie Hat, China Hat, Boat Switch, Pinkie Switch, and Mic Switch. If you forget a control, someone can call it out, and you’ll know which button to push. If all else fails, get on youtube and start watching videos until something makes sense. Try to learn one thing at a time. Take notes on things you fail and specifically learn how to fix them. TACVIEW will help you get another point of view on your situation and what went wrong or right. WHAT NEXT?: So you can fly a plane and you’ve got your HOTAS setup. Now it is time to learn how to deploy basic weapons. Learn how to fire the D model maverick, the GBU-12, and GBU-38 at minimum. This will give you some foundation to build on when we fly together. If you take a moment to learn the basics of the editor, you can make some basic training missions. Otherwise I’ve linked my training mission here. If you have any issues learning these, I can help teach you. There are some great tutorials out there but sometimes you just need some extra help. That is what I'm here for. My training mission has slots for the A10c II, A10c, and A10a. You start at Batumi and the small training airfield North of Batumi is the target area. The mission brief explains the rest. If you can survive that mission, you’re ahead of the game. We will use that mission for a lot of the training. It is subject to change and updates. Surrounded is a DCS mission. I’ve modified it for slots for the A10c II, A10c, and A10a. If you can do this mission you have situational awareness. This is the hardest mission for a new pilot to do. You have to find targets, which are called out to you. There is a friendly force at a T intersection. They tell you which direction the enemy is approaching from. You need to kill that enemy before they reach the friendly forces. If you can do this mission with ease, you’re just about ready for anything. Ready?: If you’ve read this far, then you’re ready to get some help. Reply or send me a PM. I’ll get with you as soon as I can. Oscar Juliet
A bump, since it got moved to a new location. I've helped many pilots in the past and love to teach. I recently watched spudknocker for the first time. I teach in a similar manner. Casual, fun, and I'm very patient with people. If I may say so, I wanted to hear about your opinion how VR works in DCS. This since I’m considering getting one. I didn’t ask for a URL to a section in the forums. These I can easily find by using the search box.
Lange_666
Well, .. since that subforum is a dedicated VR forum, what is holding you back to ask the same question over there? If you want to buy stuff, are you going to buy just by the opinion of one person or many? But then it's all fine by me, suite yourself. I'm sure you'll find your way around in the VR world one way or another. Win11 Pro 64-bit, Ryzen 5800X3D, Corsair H115i, Gigabyte X570S UD, EVGA 3080Ti XC3 Ultra 12GB, 64 GB DDR4 G.Skill 3600.
