Latest DCS World updates have impacted VAICOM

Hi - firstly thanks for creating such an awesome, immersive product.

 

I have been enjoying VAICOM and available extensions throughout the summer without any issues. Unfortunately, the last two updates from DCS World have stopped my radio instructions being acted upon in the sim.

I have followed the troubleshooting guides, fixed the registry, run DCS Repair, removed and reinstalled VAICOM....all to no avail.

 

All my instructions appear to be recognised well and I see the purple confirmation in the Voice Attack box and hear a beep afterwards but that is all that happens. No hearing the voice in game 'requesting start up' for example.

 

Any guidance and help you can provide at this stage would be greatly appreciated.

Once in the cockpit of a plane, if you open the Vaicom config PTT tab does it show you the correct module?

 

Also, could you start up VA / Vaicom with the Vaicom debug option turned on and post a copy of the log file here <Voiceattack install directory>/Apps/VAICOMPRO/Logs - it might help diagnose the issue

I'm having a similar issue. My voice commands work fine but when I try to use the "Options, Take 1, Take 2, etc." method, the menus appear, I can navigate to the desired command and I see the radio call subtitle but nothing happens. Get no response on the radio from the recipient. Very strange. Has been working great, then suddenly...zip. Only with "Options" type commands. If I speak a command, ex. "Tower, request engine start", it works fine. Very strange. This in stable release DCS. Weird.

Which version of Vaicom are you using? There was an issue with the Take commands not working before the last update if you didn't have AIRIO installed.

 

if you are on Vaicom 5.22 then upgrade to 5.23 to remove this

Yes, dang always forget some info(sigh). Latest version of Viacom and VA. Just got the Interactive Kneeboard. Works great. As I said, all was working great until short time ago. Very strange. Recently did big upgrade to Win 10 also. Was kinda rough. Made all my Thrustmaster joystick drivers go away. Had to update them. Don't know, maybe a factor. Very strange.

If you don't have AIRIO it might be worth downloading it and putting the DLL in the Extensions directory under Vaicompro (you don't need to register it).

 

if this doesn't fix anything (or you already have AIRIO) could you turn Vaicom debug on, try the Take commands in game and then post the Vaicom log here

My version of Vaicom was 2.5.18 - I've removed that and now run 2.5.23.

 

Each module shows correctly in the PTT screen.

Are you running easy comms on or off?

 

Your log shows that you are getting responses from ATC for both the Taxi to runway command and for takeoff

I know that you had to make several requests to take off but that is a function of the DCS ATC at the moment (I get the same). If you stop at the holding point short of the runway it will not trigger a response and I get the same until I am on the runway which is why you have the last two entries together. The first is because you are on the runway so it is not clear, the second is because you are on the runway for takeoff (it is a DCS quirk). Did you hear responses to either of these requests / get text in the top left of the screen unless you have turned screen text off in the Vaicom options?

 

I then notice you got no response to the inbound calls - I have just hopped in the same mission and did get a response to my first Inbound call straight after takeoff but need to know whether you heard the responses from ATC which are showing in the log

Ignore the taxi response - I used the menu option for that rather than VAICOM.

 

Im flying with easycom off.

I have text on but nothing shows in responses to my requests. I have voice and text on for pilots voice and hear and see nothing when requesting take off. I know DCS doesn’t always respond to take off requests but the instruction isn’t even going out on radio.

 

Very odd as it work fine a few weeks ago and I didn’t change settings.????????????

In your first post you said that you followed the trouble-shooting steps - has this included the following?

 

1. Deleting Export.lua in your saved games scripts folder and letting Vaicom recreate it

2. Running Vaicom with debug on to see if there are any additional clues shown in the log file

 

Also, could you confirm that there is only one DCS.openbeta folder in Saved Games

 

If you go into the Vaicom config > Editor tab how many commands are shown as present? If you then click the test button does this give a message in the log that the Profile matches the database (this may take a bit of time to appear depending on the number of commands you have)?

 

Also, do you run additional add-ons such as SRS?

I previously deleted the Export.lua and VAICOMPRO.export lua files and also did the master reset.

 

Inside the Saved Games folder there is a DCS folder and a DCS.openbeta folder. In the first DCS folder there is a scripts folder with additional VAICOMPRO folder with export lua files. Is this duplication my issue do you think?

Did you use to have a stable build of DCS installed (I am guessing so from the fact that you have a DCS folder). I wouldn't expect it to be having any impact, but might be worth renaming it and retrying

 

Also, have you tried with different airframes / missions?

I just have the Openbeta of DCS installed. I have removed that additional DCS folder and I am getting responses to my radio commands but it feels a bit wrong...ie no response to request taxi to runway....until my wheels roll, then all of a sudden the response comes. Both F18 and F16 had this behaviour. Also changed to easycomms to see if that made a difference...it didn't. Still cant work out why I don't hear the player voice with text when requesting ATC instructions. Here's my latest log:

I tried to talk to the tower with "Options-Take" commands. Tried twice for engine start, then, just made voice command call, "Tower, request engine start". Got immediate reply from tower. Nothing with Take commands. Same thing with request to taxi. Nocticed though that I can get the rearm screen to come up with "Options-Take" commands. Everything else though...nada. Man, what in the wide world of sports coulda happened to this thing? Was working great. Also, I did install the AIRIO dll. That was kinda a mini crisis too. But, you fixed it. Hopefully, this will resolve also. Thanks.

I am still looking at this for both of you (might need @Hollywood_315 to help if I cannot resolve) but to make it easier to read the thread it would help if you could attach the log files to your post, rather than pasting the contents into the post. This is especially true as I think there are 2 separate issues here and I am therefore needing to jump between and over posts

@Chicki I can replicate your issue - it seems to be specific to the A10 (both first and second versions) - I will contact @Hollywood_315 to see if he can help

 

EDIT: After discussing with @Hollywood_315 and carrying out some more tests suggested by him I think the issue is actually with the comms in DCS and not with the Vaicom Options / Take. I ran a repair of DCS (so removed the Vaicom changes to the lua files) and then ran DCS without having started up Vaicom again. Doing this and using the menu system also results in the ATC not responding to any requests (I have tried a few different missions and with different maps). We are still investigating

Good news - I have resolved my problem - not sure exactly where the issue was but I did the following:

 

- Deleted the duplicate DCS folder with additional export lua from savedgames

- Reset all Vaicom licences. Deleted profile and removed Vaicom from pc

-Clean reinstall of Vaicom

 

Secondly- my MFDs and F-16 Panel controller all have reassigned additional keybinds recently - one being the Communications menu. I removed all of these incorrect assignments (why does this happen?) anyway they are correct now.

 

I then tested the program and all commands were initiated immediately without any issue with DCS responding in all cases.

Great news

 

The binding assignments can happen after updates when DCS has some modifications. I always keep a backup of the Inputs folder in the Saved Games > DCS.openbeta folder on C since these sometimes go awry and it is much quicker to copy back than assign again in DCS.

 

Moving forwards, if things do go funny again checking the bindings is always a good place to start.
