If, like me, you grew up watching 'Final Countdown' a thousand times, dreaming of piloting one of those VF-84 Tomcats as they played with those Zeros, I have good news for you: I recreated that mission using original sound outtakes from the movie. Follow the instructions and make CAG Owen proud!

This looks like excellent fun. Thanks.

I have a strange question maybe someone has the answer to. When I try to load this mission everything is fine until I get to the part where you un-pause and choose the client slot. After that the game essentially freezes up for 5-10 minutes. Eventually it will load into the cockpit, but it takes forever. The same exact thing happens with your Gulf of Sidra Incident, and with Through the Inferno missions. I haven't found anything other missions which cause this (yet).

I have tried editing the mission to switch the plane from 'client' to 'player' but the load time doesn't change. I have tried changing the 14 to an 18 - no difference. I can't find any mention of others suffering the same thing. All other missions load quickly and without problem. I'm running 32GB ram and 32GB pagfile, gtx2080. Tested with update-to-date Windows, all mods removed, all shaders deleted, DCS repair (all files).

Any ideas anyone?

cheers

I splashed the zeros last night. One took a Sidewinder AND a Sparrow and I still had to kill him with guns. Tough bugger. Great mission. Very amusing use of dialog, LOL at the polar bear. Music had me grinning, too.

I was a bit discombobulated at the comms towards second half, partiality my fault. After refueling didn't switch channel back, so was hearing my dialog, but not Kirk Douglas' responses though finally remembered in time for "Splash the Zeros."

On approach to the carrier, after See You at Ten, I did roll to tower channel but wasn't hearing anything so switched back to 16 or 17 to get Case I approach but never heard anything after that in the groove. Trapped fine but wingman was scaring me with close formation flight , too and couldn't tell him to break in the pattern. Next time I'll tell him to land first. These are probably Supercarrier features left TBD.

Wow, never heard of this before. Have you tried running a dcs repair?

It turned out to be something in my saved_games folder, but I'm not totally sure what - I think it was the Scratchpad mod; possibly I had it installed incorrectly. In any event, saved_games cleaned out and problem seems solved now.

Thanks again for this mission and all your others. Content creators like you are what keep me interested in DCS, and keep me buying modules (did you hear that ED?).

  • 4 months later...

Will DL when I get home.

Noticed the Zone 5 Pitching Deck mission wouldn't load.
