CTD and RAM Saturation

Whenever I try to start a mission on Syria my game crashes directly to the desktop 90% of the time, without any error page, and my RAM saturates making any other program running alongside crash too. Same issue when I have nothing else running alongside. I have no trouble playing the game on any other maps, loadings go smoothly, as well as in-game.

Worth saying that it's not random either. For instance, I can run some of the F-14 quickstart missions without any issue, loading goes fast (although RAM usage is very high), as well as joining the Cold War server anytime it runs on Syria. But servers like Blue Flag, VFA-1 Wolfpack, or quickstart missions on the A-10 just won't load 100% of the time.

 

I play on 16Gb RAM.

Thank you. I've found similar crashes here (2019) but there was no solution at the time.

I see you have quite a few mods.

 

Please try this:

  1. Close DCS
  2. Rename your "C:\Users\your_name\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta" into "DCS.openbeta_backup"
  3. Launch DCS (you'll have default settings) and try reproducing your Syria crash a few times.

If you cannot reproduce the issue anymore, it means some mod is responsible for your crashes.

Don't accept indie game testing requests from friends in Discord. Ever.

Syria is mostly working fine with 32 GB DDR4 but I'm seeing the same heavy ram use as the OP.

 

~24 GB playing a light SP track (for comparison a similar replay in the Caucasus uses ~13 GB)

 

I can load into a light MP Syria server but it'll max out all 32 GB RAM - textures/modules are slow to load and I've seen CTD which I attribute to memory issues/shortage.
