setting the bloom to 7 as per Yeniceri's suggestion worked for me

if you set this (red highlighted)

BloomPowerDay=10

to 7 the bloom is much more acceptable levels without losing the effect

Bloom set to 100 for fun... Its a snuke.

The things I like about it is that night is darker, and you have a slight glow from your instruments. This was made for GTA VC yes? The glow is slightly excessive at night time from your instruments but thats easily fixed. What bothers me is the massive size of the bloom at dawn/dusk. While it should be bright like that it doesn't exactly accurately portray the lighting of the time of day when the sun is to low to be THAT bright.

My 2nd and third shot were taken simultaneously. When its that low in the sky the light shouldnt be THAT blinding. The sun creeps downward the bloom should fade away, but it doesn't.

The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world.

When the sun is raising or setting you can look directly at it which means it's nothing like in these photos. Only during daytime when the sun is up you can't to look at it directly because it's blinding.

I find this light glare way too excessive. If someone can come up with settings to have glare only if you're looking directly at the sun, that should be usable.

No longer active in DCS...

Motion blur isn't working in this version, Im pretty sure that it has been disabled as well as a couple of other features. The guy who made the mod says that he may release an updated version of the directx8 .dll that we are using with more features enabled so hopefully we'll see that soon.

I tried this one out last night. Funny thing is, I'm not getting a bloom effect anywhere near as extreme as what I'm seeing in the screenshots. Bloom effect at 10 looks fine and at 7 its down right subtle. Overall the entire effect, including the haze, is far more muted on my system. I have a 8800 GTS 512.

Also, is anyone noticing that the bloom effect is on the loading and ME screen and sometimes it will switch off? These screens are unnaturally bright. When I load the mission, the bloom effect is there. Sometimes these screens will suddenly go back to normal. If I load the mission then, no more bloom effect.

Now we have manga-like colors PLUS thermal explosion during dusk/dawn :P

Honestly I don't understand what people see in this kind of effects similar to "bloom" introduced in DX9. Everything looks like in damn 80's soap opera. I don't recall I've ever seen an object "blooming" in real life.

And BTW - your mod has (almost) nothing to do with HDR effect. Figure it out.

Real HDR effect and bloom effect are independent. Take Armed Assault for example. One can make it look like few years old game (no bloom) but still get the HDR effect.

I would never think that it's possible to make Lock On look more fairytale'ish. Well done, you did it! :D

It's like that saying "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" everyone has their own perceptions of what they see, some like and some dislike the HDR and bloom effects, each to their own :)

I think this effects given with this plugin are great :D

In my experience with HDR and bloom, these two things go hand in hand with normal/bump mapping. I've noticed that these effects make bump mapping look more natural and realistic. Bump mapping has a tendency to make things look plastic and fake and these lighting effects reduce that to a degree.

The thing is, LOMAC doesn't have any bump mapping, so this does tend to make things look like someone put vaseline on the lens or like you're watching a soap opera. :D

LOL...it reminds me of the Star Trek original series when the camera would cut to the female "love interest" that episode. Suddenly the lens had this soft hazy look. Cut back to Captain Kirk, no more "bloom" effect. :lol:

@3sqn.server

I agree with you about what its trying to do. See my original post a couple pages back. The intended effect is very realistic indeed. The human eye can't make out detail on objects when that object is flooded with huge amount of light. In fact, on the drive home I started looking at clouds and noticed very similar effects on clouds that were near to the sun. The ACTUAL effect, however, is subjective and one can argue for or against it. For me, the verdict is still out on whether I like this or not.

I said I HAVEN'T seen any blooming objects in my life. At least I don't recall it. Oh, and "precious" gives double vision not bloom :music_whistling: Not to mention THE highest quality! :thumbsup:

I'm talking about colors in LO. You can pretend you don't know what I'm talking about but I think most had dropped this practice :P And I'm not smoking ANYTHING :sly:

Have you traveled much? I've seen what this mod is trying to approximate many times. You see much the same thing if you've spent any time flying as well. The fact is that a computer monitor cannot reproduce what we really see in the fact that the monitor is 2-dimensional. In any computer game there are graphical exaggerations to help with the immersion. You gave ARMA as an example. The muzzle flash in that game is every bit as exaggerated as you say this bloom is. The fact is that muzzle flash can barely be seen during the day. But that wouldn't be as exciting and as immersive, would it? The bloom in this mod exaggerates color and attempts to emulate what our eyes see when looking at a bright light source. This mod is a huge step ahead for those who fly LOMAC. You have the choice to use it or not, but you're out of line when you dismiss it because you don't particularly like it. Peruse this thread again, you're in the minority. Thanks to the creator for this mod, it's fantastic.

Simulating bloomy sight of a fighter pilot on duty. Good one:P

I don't consider any unnecessary exaggerations in any game as an excuse for this particular exaggeration we're discussing.

HDR effect "simulates" it more properly. Point source of light can blind whole field of view. In this mod point is a point, just brighter so stop referring to HDR.

The most importand thing - I don't dimiss the mod so stop impute this further. First of all I have great respect for those who find in LO new areas to experiment with and make LO better. Just in this case I stated that this mode makes LO not better but different. This is my opinion and it's not unfactual.

It's not my mod as I stated in first post, It was a file that I found for a totally different game and I realised that it might work in Lockon. I'm well aware of the differences between High Dynamic Range lighting and bloom but I also know that not everyone else does and/or often confuse them. But I try not to be a smart arse about it.

I would never think that it's possible to make Lock On look more fairytale'ish. Well done, you did it! :D

Lets hope it has a happy ending then eh? :D

My bad.

So what would you call all the people discussing certain missiale real life performance, aerodynamics and avionic systems matters? :huh: It's a flight simulator forum - not a Need for Speed forum :P

Lets hope it has a happy ending then eh? :D

We sure can hope for it. ;)
