FW-190A-8 Horrido Campaign info

Recommended Posts

August, 1944. You arrive to Merville-Calonne to take over the leadership of 7./JG26 flying Focke Wulf 190A-8s. Most of the pilots are mere teenagers with only a few flying hours, and your job is to turn them into an efficient fighting unit under the ever-increasing pressures of the war. The Western-Allies have gained complete air superiority over the continent, and their ground forces are advancing rapidly through France. Experience the thrill of attacking large bomber formations head-on, or the terror of taking off amid the bullets of low flying Mustangs. Escort bombers to their target across the hazy Channel, or strafe enemy vehicles advancing relentlessly towards Germany. Join the last of the Jagdfliegers as they fight desperately day after day in the final months of the Third Reich.

Key Features:

- 12 semi-historical missions focusing on JG26 in August 1944

- Detailed briefings and briefing images, including separate PDF mission files

- Unique kneeboard cards and checklists for each mission

- Hundreds of specially recorded voice-over messages and radio broadcasts

- German voices with English subtitles

- Historically accurate custom skins

- A wide array of missions including patrol, intercept, bomber escort, ground attack and more

Thank you for your interest in “Horrido!”, my DCS Fw-190A-8 campaign. This is not an accurate reproduction of real life events. The plane types and the locations may not be 100% correct. However, I thought we have a wonderful model of this famous WWII warbird, as well as the beautiful Channel map, so why not use what DCS can offer and put it all together in 12 immersive missions? If you played my other campaigns you know that I pay attention to all the little details, and do everything in my power so that the player really feels like a WWII fighter pilot who’s part of something much bigger than him. Horrido! is no different. If, like me, you love the DCS FW-190A-8, and you would like to fly it in a complex, immersive, semi-historical scenario, then I’m sure you’ll enjoy this campaign. I'm really looking forward to hearing your feedback.

Hi Eddyimac, thanks for the kind words. No, Horrido is not on Steam yet, ED usually makes it available a few moths after the original release, but that's just my experience, I have no overview of this. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for an imminent release.

Thank You!!

@Sceptre have you had any time for it? Looking forward to hearing your impressions ;)

Yes I have played through 4 missions so far. First of all thanks for using the gorgeous channel map. The decision to use German instead of accented English was a good one, even though I don't speak it the immersion is high, especially when paired with the ww2 radio mod. Leading the entire squadron from the get-go is a nice change I can get used to as well. The choices on how to engage targets (eg. bombers in mission 2) was really well done, I liked that. I loved the intro "cutscene" with the staff car. Never seen anything like that in a DCS campaign and it shows what can be done with some clever scripting. So far easily one of my favourite campaigns. The atmosphere created from the voice overs, mission variety and static unit placement on the base is awesome. Highly recommend this to anyone who has the channel map. I'll probably save the rest until the new DM is in for Sp content on the 18th so I can really enjoy the flying artillery brigade that is the A8:thumbup:

P.S: Mosquito campaign - you know we need it :megalol:

Thanks for the kind words, I'm glad you're enjoying it :) Yes, the new DM is a real game changer. You can go on until mission 8 (?), that's when you'll meet bombers next. Fighter DM is already in place AFAIK.

You bet, I've already done a lot of research, and have the storyline and missions planned ;)

Hi Reflected,

I just started the campaign and I am impressed. The first mission set the pace for the campaign and I found pretty har to fly the A8 in combat. I am going for the third mission. I intend to make some movies about it. I let you know when I make the first.

Once again, Congratulations for the immersive enviroment.

All the best,

Sydy

Thanks @Sydy , looking forward to the videos!

Hi Reflected,

I just finished the Horrido! Campaign. It was a lot of fun!

- Missions are all well planned and doable.

- No bugs that may be a deal breaker.

- In fact, in all mission, I only found 2 bugs (maybe) on missions 07 and 08 when Abbeville never answered the radio, but no big problem.

- Good briefings and enough information to fulfil the missions.

- Another A+ campaign. Congratulations.

For me, the very first mission was the most difficult. In one of the missions I got one of your baits... Bad for me... LOL (no spoilers)

The spits are the most difficult air adversaries. Ponies and Thunderbolts are a match, but doable. A-20s a juice target. B-17 formation, a damn porcupine...

Dude, you surprised me with that end... You sure did!

Now I have to edit the campaign material I recorded. I have material to 13 missions... ;-) (no spoilers here neither).

Once again, congratulations!

All the best,

Hi Sydy,

Thanks a lot for the feedback, I'm glad you enjoyed it :) It's good to hear that some of the traps and twists caught you by surprise, I thought I'd spice up the events a little.

I agree, Spits are very difficult opponents, that's why I rarely used them. Mission 1 is definitely the toughest for me too, but it's meant to be tough to set the right mood for the rest of the story.

If you call for help using the F10 menu, and head South immediately, the 2nd flight can come to your rescue. Staying low near the AA guns is another option.

I'll check the Abbeville radio freqs, and I'm looking forward to seeing those videos :)

Thanks again!

Big thank you for the Horrido! campaign Reflected.

Honestly, it is the best scripted campaign I have ever played! (I have played 6 missions so far)

Just one little thing: I noticed AI never drops belly tank before combat/attack. Is there any way for me as a leader to make them drop it?

I was talking about Fw 190 A-8 AI. Well, in the last few missions (I guess since the mission no. 3) I have not available Comm menu so I cannot give orders via F10 to attack.

EDIT: I am using VAICOM plugin for VOICE ATTACK to give orders via mic. Now I tried to not run Voice Attack and Comm menu at the start of mission 5 is available. I will try to fly all the next misson without VA and let you know here about the availability of Comm menu as well as about drop tanks after F10 attack command.

OK, I found out that friedly AI drop tanks correctly after command  "engage bandits" 👍

The problem is VOICE ATTACK more precisely it's plugin VAICOM.

In all single missions as well as scripted campaings including your Blue nose bastards VAICOM plugin works OK (I have just tested many of them).

But not in Horrido! campaign missions 😞

More precisely in most of them not. e.g in misson nr. 2 it seems to work (at least the first 5 minutes - I did not tested it longer), in mission 1 (submarine affair) it do not work at all etc.

The correct behaviour:

I press PTT button on my joystick and then I spoke command. The command is immediately carried out without opening comm menu (that si the ingenious way the plugin VAICOM works). But if I want to open Comm menu I can do it anytime via "Radio pushbutton" (RALT +  /)

The incorrect behaviour in many Horrido! missions is this:

I press PTT button on my joystick and then I spoke command. The command is not carried out untill I press "Radio pushbutton" (RALT +  /) twice (!). If I do not do this, the spoken command is not carried out despite Voice Attack recognize it correctly and I also do not see Comm menu until I press "Radio pushbutton" once again (e.g. for the third time).

If I say 2 commands in succession, I have to press radio pushbutton 4x + 1x to see Comm menu,

If I say 3 commands in succession, I have to press radio pushbutton 6x + 1x to see Comm menu etc...

I guess there is something scripted in this campaign that interfere with the way how VAICOM inject commands into DCS...

May be you would consult it with Hollywood (author of the VAICOM plugin): https://forums.eagle.ru/topic/168657-vaicom-pro-plugin-for-voiceattack/

I'm sorry it doesn't work properly with Vaicom, but let me assure you there's nothing I can do in the mission editor to affect this. I only work with the stock tools offered by the mission editor. My guess would be that it conflicts with the FW-190A somehow. I can't really help because I never used it, never seen it 😞 But the only setting forced by the campaign is wake turbulence=off, the rest is just triggers and sound files.

Does it work with the FW-190 in single missions?

Just tested Fw 190A more extensively with VAICOM.

Conclusion: No single mission with this plane works well with VAICOM. I have to correct also the above statements about Horrido! because NO mission from the campaign works with VAICOM. So it seems the problem si FW 190 A-8 not the campaign nor missions.

All other missions and campaings with other WWII planes works well with VAICOM plugin.

EDIT: I posted this problem to VAICOM thread here: https://forums.eagle.ru/topic/168657-vaicom-pro-plugin-for-voiceattack/?do=findComment&comment=4498598

I have just finished mission 9. Destroyed few vehicles and shot down P-47. Though I have noticed light demage on my wings I managed to land at Merville, rolled out of runway and switched off the engine. BUT the mission did not counted as finished and so I have to fly it again 😐 Any idea why? And also: is it possible to continue in a campaing and not to fly this mission again?

THX

BTW: with Easy Communication set ON the voice control via VOICE ATTACK works well in the campaign.
