See what was I saying about the CPU bottleneck? Anywhere with lots of objects like a city or near the ground the FPS is limited by the CPU.

Please, let’s not get into all that again. Give it a rest.

Guys, did you see my post https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=4495771&postcount=72 on the thread mentioned above. I'm less convinced by what I'm seeing of the 3080 as time goes on.

Still going to hover on the 3090 button tomorrow though!

Me too. Its looking more and more like its performance gains over previous generations aren't going to be all that applicable to DCS. I think I'm going to stand down on my 3090 order, since DCS is my main concern, and it also seems to be my only title that struggles in VR with my current hardware. Not sure if its the same in the UK, but the US release date for the 3090 just got updated. Instead of 9-24, its now 10-21.

But he's supersampling at 1.5 for his Vive. Also, in general, the video looks very smooth no? W/O a lot of dropped frames.

I was worried about the high resolution of Reverb, but not having to supersample really made it smoother, IMO.

Really? Interesting. Where did you see that?

Best Buy changed the date on the one I had my eye on. Now that I think about it, maybe the other 3090s still have a release date of 9-24. I was looking at the Asus ROG Strix.

Edit: Yup. Release dates for the 3090 are all over the place, so maybe there are issues. The Nvidia card has the latest release date of 10-28.

Corrected that one :smilewink: Maybe no performance gain over 2080ti but I think I'll get some boost from 1070TI :joystick:

I took his 150% into account as you can see in the post.

For my test in that post I used no SS, but in normal use, my Reverb is set to 170% SteamVR SS. If your hardware can handle it, SS improves clarity a lot even on the Reverb.

I just got my 3080 and have done some quick tests. Don't have time to show comparison fspVR results or anything atm. But my GPU frametimes came way down. It's now roughly equivalent to cpu frametimes. PG freeflight F18, with 1080Ti I was getting 45-50fps on max fov 5k+, no SS.

With 3080, normal fov, 1.25 SS in pitool, 82fps.

Not equivalent tests I know, but quite a nice overhead to have now.

F18FFPG_3080_NormalFoV_1_25Pitool

If I had to guess, my gpu frametimes came down something like 7ms

It would be good if you put your hardware in your signature.

Not sure why everyone is jumping on the bandwagon so quickly? I mean it appears that this was mostly a paper launch anyway. Is waiting a month for Big Navi and for more stock from Nvidia really that hard?

Hehehe. Good catch. I stand corrected. And you'll be paying half what I paid to go from a 1080ti to a 2080ti, which really didn't get me much in the way of a performance gain. :D

I know what you're saying though. I'm more enthused about getting my Reverb G2, but that too will be ready when its ready, and I'm good with that. I'd rather have it right than right now.

I have no idea, it probably will be. I do believe that the performance/benchmarks are going to be close to the levels of Nvidia and AMD's pricing will be aggressive. One of the reasons why I feel that both of these things will be true and that AMD will finally put out a decent graphics card after a very long time is Nvidia's pricing this time round.

You're very optimistic. Me, on the other hand, given the fact that AMD main focus today are consoles, I don't think it will even dare competing at the top. Perhaps it will come close to a 3070; very efficient yet not very powerful. But I'm just guessing, who knows.

For me, DCS is barely VR playable. Reducing the resolution or even reducing graphic setting in VR on my 2080 TI does very little. This game is just not optimized to use the horsepower of today's hardware. Two years ago, I upgraded from a watercooled Pascal Titan Xp and now I have a Bios modded and Power Modded watercooled MSI Sea Hawk Ek X running at over 2100mhz with a with a +700 Vram offset; Stable. The CPU is a 9900K @ 5ghz on all cores. My Son has the same GPU on a stock 7700k and we get the same exact frame rate regardless of the resolution. DCS NEEDS Massive optimization in it's basic code, Vulcan is sorely needed.

How is that that your computer cant handle VR. Do you have Steam pixel density set up and ingame also turned on?

I have Ryzen 3900@4.2, 32gb ram 3200mhz, Rtx 2070, Oculus Rift S. Ingame (my is standalone version of DCS) pixel density is on 1 and in Oculus tray tool set aslo to 1 if i stream. If not i can set up to 1.5 and runs like charm single player or multiplayer with 20+ players. Only shutter is when some scripts load.

If they haven't done so already, AMD is going to have to get rid of the "Driver Dance" if they want to get my business back. I used to be a big fan of AMD and bought nothing but their cards, but the driver dance was a PITA. Figured the Nvidia cards were the same way, until I got my first gaming laptop with an Nvidia card in it (and GeForce Experience). After experiencing essentially one-click driver updates since then, there's no way I would go back to having to do the driver dance.

If I can get close to the performance of the 3080 at half the price, I will gladly do the driver dance hell Ill do the driver strip-tease

(But yeah, if the card performs similarily or slightly better than an Nvidia card at a similar price point, then Nvidia is definitely the way to go. Especially considering the RTX and DLSS technologies)
