Water - Lakes and Sea

Guys first off a thank you for all the hard efforts of the Syria Map, you can tell its had alot of pride put into the work and having bought all the maps as they were released i can honestly say this has far exceeded anything before it. To get the performance you have yet with the detail its literally by far the best map for DCS.

The only main glitch i spot, that affects large portions of the map is the water. Whilst i love the transparency and not advocated this is taken away it does have issues with many lakes that look brown when you fly over them. Either the transparency is too great but i rather suspect its that the digital terrain mesh for depth of lake hasn't been taken into account, aka too shallow hence the brown mud base texture shows through. Can we replace the ground texture to make them look more like lakes when looking straight down into them of fade out the transparency for deeper bodies of water aka past say 60 feet?

Same issue at beach's. On this part of the Med coast it has stunning white and golden sands that go far out into the bay, alot of the time we get brown coasts under the water. Can we increase the sand texture further out - these coasts and lakes should be stunning blues and turquoise green in places.

The brown though isn't right.

See attached.

Ok few other shots these are just south of Ar Raqqah, and lake Assad.

Just showing how view distance and slant angle affects the brown looking rivers

Ok so just wondering if any feedback on this issue / fix?

It's a pretty major flaw in what is a quality map.

Was hoping that in 2.7 the horrible brown water would have been dealt with. On the Syria map none of the lakes look like they should colour wise they are always brown when you fly over them right below aircraft.  Looks terrible.

Please reduce transparancy so they actually look how they should, not crystal clear water with brown mud under them!

Thanks bumping as 4 months on with a major update.

Yeah, I recently bought the Syria map and was quite disappointed by those water effects as well.

From directly above, the rivers really look more like dirt roads and even large lakes look like they are just knee-deep.

Personally I think the issue could likely be resolved by giving the Riverbed/ocean floor texture an aqua or Yellow tinge/filter, In particular I figure the Medeteranian coast line does not have the Azure look I imagine.  I dont undertand how the textures work well enough to do a Proof of concept or where else that specific texture is used.

Here's a rudimentary example by throwing a very quick filter over one of the examples above, I just adjusted the color balance for the section, but I think it would resolve the issue of the transparency:

Agreed, one of my pet peeves with this map due to the many bodies if water. The Euphrates river in particular looks consistently terrible due to switching from deep blue to mud brown depending on viewing angle/proximity, and is very immersion beaking.

While some improvements could still be made to some shallow rivers (particularly Euphrates near Raqqa), overall this bug has been fixed in the latest release of DCS (2.7.2).
Well done Ugra, it is a fantastic upgrade to the visual fidelity of the Syria map! Coastlines and lakes in particularly look great now!

I believe this thread can be marked as 'resolved' now.

Just to wrap up yes the water is most definately been tweaked - and it looks so much better!

Thanks Ugra, work you can be proud of its an amazing map and Cyprus being released makes the map fantastic for scenario's and mission building.  I particularly appreciate the more detailed digital terrain mesh in Northern Cyprus with the rock outcrops, i wish these where present on in DCS world more often, it makes the whole scenery far more immersive also.

Best map without question.
