As much as I want a C-130 in DCS, ED stated in the interview that they won't do it. The hope is that a third party will do it.

I'd like to have an AC-130U module though...

I wouldn't. Plain Jane unarmed c-130 for me like 99% of the fleet

But it's not gonna happen, regardless

I don't want to fall foul of Forum rules (particularly as I never play General Aviation sims anyway) but surely there's a pseudo-competitor product coming soon where you'll be able to fly C130's with better weather and better ATC on bigger maps...that would be a far better/more enjoyable environment for C130 ops?

WIth DCS a better environment for Combat aviation simulation...

Why try and re-invent the wheel...

In my opinion this would be great.

C130 can do almost everything and it would be a great chance for ED to integrate support Aircrafts.

C130 can drop payloads, refuel in flight and so on...

What do you think? Are we gonna see the Herc in DCS?

My opinion on this matter is that I would like a 100% human role military simulator and that includes ships, tanks, infantry and transport planes. But I think a C-130 would be a very easy target. You would only get to your destination 30% of the time. You would need a permanent dedicated escort for cooperative missions that could be considered serious and realistic. Assuming you've accepted that, I think you'd be one of the few interested in taking a 20 minute preflight to die 70% of the time. We already know how AIM-54Cs launched at 40 nautical miles work. You would need an escort of three or four planes just for you. Anyway, your wish is as valid as any other and I hope you achieve it.

the only time i wanted to be flying a C-some # or KC-some # in DCS is in large multiplayer missions where to win you need to call a C-130 via F10 menu to the base we want to capture. sine the AI follows a static flight plan it will herp-A-derp into a RED barCAP or AAR just so i can call out when im going to make a turn and not hard bank or zig-zag to get on course or announce im low on fuel no more for you instead of crash diving to the nearest air field while some one is connected. there is a time an place for cargo flying but not in DCS. and if you want to call me a hater i do own the PMDG 747 and flown in the vatsim cross the pond event all full ATC for 10hr YAY!!!

ED has recently confirmed that they have no planes to do a C-130. But like a year ago RAZBAM had asked their Facebook followers what non combat aircraft would everyone be interested in and the C-130 came in as the Top requested.

So maybe there is still hope with RAZBAM or one of the other 3rd parties.

Well now that the Mossie is soon to be released, maybe that's not quite accurate anymore and maybe this thread needs to be revisited?

I would love a transport airplane in DCS world, for the same reasons why I love the transport helicopters in DCS world. Logistics and Support. With certain scripts the flyable Mi8 and the Huey are at the fore-front of Red vs Blue multiplayer dynamic missions. They transport troops, vehicles and even build SAM sites and defenses.

Oh and if they decide to do an Armed version of this monster the AC-130, then the possibilities become endless.

Perhaps I'm missing something here, but why would release of the Mosquito be of any influence to the fact that apparently >2 engines isn't possible within DCS currently?

Just saying that if they can model 2 engined prop aircraft, then why not 4 engined turbo props? In any case it doesn't have to be done by Eagle Dynamics.

As far as I know, 2 engines have never been an issue (prop or jet).. But, let me not derail this thread any further. The wish for a C-130, despite whether it's at all possible or not 🙂

Or if we can't have the Hercules, what about the C27J? If that is too modern, maybe the Naval C2A? These are both twin-engined. While I would not like to see civilian aircraft in DCS World, military transport aircraft are a whole different thing. I think that there is a market here for this kind of thing. There are entire servers\missions out there that cater to people doing just logistics. It's fun to see the battle evolve when you capture airfields with choppers. Adding transport airplanes into the mix would be even better. (Not to mention faster, Helicopters are not really that fast nor can they carry much)

C-130 would be an instant buy for me. The C-130H of C-130J would be fun to perform missions in with basic trash hauling or to drop paratroopers and deliver equipment (think HMMWV's, APC's, Trucks or even a OH-58D) to capture airfields or other other important targets like bridges, road junctures, tunnels or towns. While the vanilla H/J models would be nice to have, what I really want is an MC-130H Combat Talon II. In addition to the missions the standard C-130's perform, with the MC-130H we could do low level night time flying, Special Forces Infiltration/Exfiltration for deep reconnaissance, Helo/fixed wing air refueling via probe  and drogue, act as a forward refueling point for non-probe and drogue equipped aircraft and drop the GBU-43 to... eh... clear LZ's for helicopters. Lots of potential for DCS gameplay.

Truly superior pilots are those that use their superior judgment to avoid those situations where they might have to use their superior skills.

Yeah, I'd love a C-130, it was one of my go to aircraft in another sim, before I jumped ship to DCS

To truly flesh it out though, we'd probably have to have the ability to actually transport stuff, as well as things like paratroopers and paradropped vehicles be implemented. We'd also probably have to improve the logistics side of things too.

My preference though would be something older - say circa 80s/90s, and the variants that I'm interested in particular would be RAF Hercules C.1/C.3 w. the IFR probe (these are essentially C-130Es with British communication systems).

Day 1 buy for me too. However if the problem is 4 engines, and DCS code (or complexity) we have twin-engine transport aircraft that can do the trick. They are not as big or imposing as the Hercules, but they are still very cool.

In fact I would buy any twin engined turbo-prop or jet military transport with STOL capability, apart from the Osprey which I find ugly and ridiculous 🙂

I mean, DCS should support 4 engines anyway (and the B-52 has 8), it probably just approximates it as 2, but it really should support more regardless.

Blimey! I'll certainly have to disagree with you there 😛
