Night Lighting

Recommended Posts

wanted to thank ED for the superb night lighting we are getting in the sim now, the planes lights have came a long way and u guys are on the right direction now, landing lights are blinding which is the way it should be.

my 2 cents is the lod distances need a touch more increased and landing lights should be seen much further out on approach bloom effect halo at distance.

really enjoy night flying in DCS now.

post some night shots guys...

Hey, Diveplane.

What are your in-game gamma settings?

If I have gamma up high enough to make city lights realistic, nose wheel lights are too bright.

If I have gamma low enough to make the nose wheel look good, city lights are too dim.

But... when you park or drive by under floodlights at an airport, your plane is still dark.

i can not make a screenshot at the moment but i will add that later.

The floodlights are baked not dynamic lights, which is a shame.

The two main landing gear in that screenshot look like they are suspended in air. There needs to be some shadowing around those tires to make them appear to be on the ground.
That'd require that the taxi lights would interact with 3D models and cast shadows, which is not the case in DCS. Only the sun creates shadows.

  • 4 months later...

Too bad they tuned down some of the lights. Initially in 2.5.6 you could see reflections from the navigation lights and gear lights on the ground, as in the original pictures posted here, but I guess in the process of fixing some bloom issues, we lost that

'Shadow'

Everybody gotta be offended and take it personally now-a-days
